Here's my MX-8 on my M-7040:

Very nice looking setup. I really like that mower, never saw one before. Keep us updated on how it does.

Thanks. It's a semi-mount with hydraulic swing. Works great along fences, under trees. When you transport, you can swing it side to side for traffic situations.
It does fine in 2-3' stuff. That's all I've really been through with it thusfar.
Where it's parked now is 23 acres of 5'+ tall stuff. I did a few passes and it didn't miss a beat. There's some thick 4'-5' stuff in the back (small bushes) that might require 2X cutting.

What is your typical forward speed with the MX8? I run my MX6 through some very thick Bahia last week at about 5 mph and had to slow down. Most areas it would power through, but if it got really thick for a good stretch I would have to drop to about 3 mph. I am cutting it really low, probably a couple inches high.

What do you guys think of the flail mowers? Would a flail mower handle 5-6 ft goldenrod/brush?

The hydraulic swing really is a nice feature. Depending on the brush, you might have to make a couple of passes. I have run into areas like that with mine where I had to do this to get the quality of cut I wanted.

I have never used a flail mower, so I have no first hand knowledge, but from talking with owners on here and watching a couple in action around here, I believe you can get a flail mower that will cut anything a rotary cutter will. Just like the rotary cutters, different types, "light, medium, heavy" will need to match the needs.

You sure have a lot of neat stuff.

No kidding - And here I was all proud about my off brand 8'. Looking at the pics of the MX8 I now understand why you need such high HP to run one. What a beast! I did take mine in 2-3" stuff this weekend and it just loved it.
I just can not imagine shredding in a cab could be as fun as hitting the heavy stuff in an open station - maybe fun is not the word - exciting!:confused2:

I just did ~18 acres today. The MX-8 was flawless.

If you can afford a side shift deck, by all means, get it. When mowing along steep hills, you just flip the remote lever, and it shifts to the higher side of the tractor, through a gate, next to fence, etc.

A much under-rated option on a mower.
