You are correct. They open a case as soon as you call, even if you dont collect a dime.

Chris

Going back to 1986 or 87, I was at my boss' house helping him put a header on a 4cyl Fiero. (Yeah, I'm a gear head). His wife backed out of the driveway, was watching us work and backed into the rear 1/4 of my POS Granada. I laughed it off. It was a $500 car at the time. I didn't turn in anything to the insurance (dent was small and I didn't honestly care).

So what happened? They raised his wife's and his insurance by 50%. I learned about that 2 months later when he asked why I didn't fix the dent. When I told him that I had never called because I didn't care about it, well he was PO'ed. Lesson learned! He could have BOUGHT me a replacement car for the "premium" they hit him with for an accident that they didn't pay out on.

Moral of the story is that you don't use insurance unless you HAVE to. That's why I have max deductibles and drop things like collision and comp quickly.

Ok, the final tally is in. I haven't had a chance to compare it with everyones guesses yet. I am typing this using the TBN iPhone app which is very user friendly but would rather scroll through them on the computer. I will first say that they need 194 parts. I am guessing this includes all the nuts and bolts as well. The most expensive part is the power steering module at the base of the steering shaft. Is was $1300 in itself. Labor is $2100. And a drum roll please...........
Grand total: $9013.75

I am picking up the quote tomorrow morning to send to the adjuster. Now to see what they say. The B7800 has been replaced with the B3200. Basically the same tractor with tweaked engine and new sheet metal.

I did question my insurance about the what all this will do to my premium.
First, I will loose my 20% no claim discount for 5 years which equals $170/year.
Second, I will have an increase in my premium for 3 years. He is checking to see what that will be. He said it will be less than what the 20% discount is.
Third, is my $500 deductible.
So if my calculations are correct, assuming my increase in premium equals $170, I am out of pocket a total of about $1400 over this five year healing period.

That really hurts. One thing I would look at is if you do have to get a new tractor will you FEL stay with you? And if it will can it be put on the new tractor? This could be a sticking point.

It sounds like you are close to the cut off point between fixing it and replacing it.

Congratulations JDL,

I was thinking of giving my Kubota Hat to the winner if it is replaced. I see that your shade of orange is a little different JDL and it might clash your style.

I am heading to the dealer to get the quote and take more pics now that things have been removed. Faxing paperwork to insurance today as well. Hopefully this will be a quick process no matter which choice they make. I have work to do!

Wow, there must have been a lot of hidden damage, incl the power steering
valve. What other big parts were quoted?

If indeed your tractor gets totalled out, buy it back as part of your
settlement, as BUCK12 suggests. I have done that with a motorcycle
once, which can make all other vehicle repairs look cheap. You can then
use your settlement money to buy any new (or used) tractor you want,
then sell or fix the old B.

Since you did not hurt the FEL, your $9K quotation sounds like about
100% of current value, but maybe only 75% of replacement cost (new),
sans loader. Probably no new Kubota will fit your old FEL.

Anyway, at that price, there are a lot of reasons NOT to have the dealer
fix it. That's kinda how I got my B21 project....the repair estimate at the
dealer was too high to make sense. (I would grab that unfixed B7800
in a second, if it came up for sale around here.)
