A dry cut would be nice but I'm guessing the price for this band saw is no where near the cost of a dry cut saw. If the choice was between a new abrasive saw and a dry cut I wouldn't even think twice about spending the extra money.

Buy a 1600 Ellis metal bandsaw. You will never be without one. I use mine all the time. Very handy tool.

.... It takes a lot longer to cut through a peice of 2x4 HW tube than it does to MIG the last cutoff in place.
.....

Sounds like you need to change to a stick welder, so you aren't waiting on the bandsaw :D

Thats the truth.

I used the bandsaw WAY more before I got the MIG. It is harder and takes longer to "fill" with the stick.

Now that I got the MIG, the bandsaw sees much less use.

For anyone who has an oddball size bandsaw, needing bands. I have a friend of mine who makes custom band-saw blades, as well as a full-on tool sharpening business.

He is past retirement age, so this is just something to keep him busy.

I started getting my HF/TSC bandsaw blades from him. He's about the same price as getting them from TSC, but at least I know I'm putting $$$'s in a neighbor's pocket.

PM me if you want his info.

HF bandsaw (Horizontal/Vertical Metal Cutting Bandsaw) is cheap, but it does the job. Buy good blades and do a little tweaking now and then and it works great. Cuts everything put on it. The chop saw sits on the shelf and watches.

Its 25% off thanksgiving day also. I don't use HF power tools as they are usually underwhelming on the power side. Their impact sockets however are 1/3 the cost and I have yet to have one shatter or not fit.

Question for Bob, I have a HD Dewalt Chop Saw can I replace the abrasive wheel with a dry cut blade to convert it or are they totally different animals?

I'm not Bob, but I can tell you they are different animals. A cold cut blade requires more torque than an abrasive saw is meant to put out.

I think the answer is no. Dry cut saws turn at a lower RPM. I'm not sure if the blade will last if you spin it at a high RPM.
