firearm attachment-is there such a thing?

In Colorado you can have an open carry pistol (loaded) in a motor vehicle (includes atv/utv -- never considered looking if it includes tractors), but not a loaded long gun or a strung bow. That's off your property rules. Open carry is legal in any case, but you probably ought to consider not doing so in the PDR of Denver or some other high density areas without expecting some harassment.

Face to face is legal in Colorado as well. Though the Kalifornication is growing, it hasn't happened to affect firearms much. CCW is a 'shall issue' here, along with the 'make my day' law (similar to the Castle Doctrine).

That being said, my CCW happens to cover my slightly out of spec knife. Good point someone made.

If you hunt with a license, and if you post on the web, data mining will find you. You will be assimilated.

For the machete crowd, check out the Woodsman's Pal. I have the Vietnam era unit. I think this one would be perfect: Woodman's Pal Long Reach Machete with Wood Handle & Cordura Sheath

As for me, unless my wife ultimately 'steals it' (it has been threatened) a Ruger LCR (38+p, original model) fits the pocket well for summer wear. I wear cargo shorts and usually put my cell or something (there's always something to carry) in the front pocket to break up the print. And use something similar to the Desantis holster. For winter: M&P 40. Twice the round count. A real skinny buddy of mine wears a pocket .380 365 days a year. Takes a bunny here and there to blow out the pocket fuzz.

We will import a snake (in the road) if it isn't poisonous. Rattlers -- they have to go goodbye!

Sorry, but I do NOT understand the inclination to kill animals "just because." Snakes , coyotes are part of the food chain and they keep the pests down.
If you or your family, pets or live stock that you can't put away for the night are at stake, then feel free. The ONLY animal found to keep mice and rats under control (NOT cats) are snakes.
Stop killing only to kill, and think it through first.
regards,
Steve

With snakes I understand your point. Coyotes, not so much, they are getting pretty plentiful here. Never seen one 20 years ago around here. Now, they are chasing the barn cats around at night in the yard.

Wild hogs is another big issue for me, with nothing to keep the population in check their numbers can get way out of control. They can ruin a lot of pasture in a night or two.

Over here there is way to many coyotes in fact we get paid for killing them by the township

I wish they would start paying for them here. Hogs too!

This is back to the age old issue.
Are you hunting, or do you need self defense?
IMHO,

hunting = rifle for accuracy and distance

defense = pocket carry pistol, 9mm for knock down power and availability because it is always with you in your pocket. Mine with holster conceals into every front pocket of every pair of jeans and slacks I already owned before I purchased it.

A 9mm has no knock down power. I have some personal experience in the matter. Take my word for it. If you want/need something for hogs or people go with 40 cal or bigger. Federal HST in 40 cal is a very capable round and not much worse in the recoil department compared to 9mm.

ditto that. I'd never trust a 9mm against a hog.

when I go hog hunting, in addition to my rifle, I always carry either a .45acp or my .44mag colt anaconda... for close encounters...

i've seen side shields on large 350# hogs that were about 3" inches thick.. kinda like soft body armor...

No experience with shooting either hogs or people, but being a people myself I'd wager that a 9mm will more than serve the needs of personal defense. Also, the ammo selection being what it is out there really increases the range of hurt that a single caliber can deliver.

I guess if I felt the need to carry on my tractor Id mount a 50 caliber across the loader arms and stuff a couple of claymores under the seat.

Knock down power or not? I've heard those arguments for over 46 years. Now I've not personally shot any hogs or people either, but when I was a kid, I saw plenty of domestic hogs killed for meat, and every one of them was shot with a .22 rifle. In more recent times, I met some guys who hunted the feral hogs with dogs. They killed the hogs with a .22 pistol.

And during my police career, I saw both suicides and murders committed with .22 pistols. It doesn't take a big piece of lead if it's applied to the right location. Incidentally, my old department now issues 9mm Sig Sauer P226 handguns. Personally, I qualify with a 9mm, but my favorites are still my old Smith & Wesson .38 special pistols.
