LOOKING AT MOTOR FROM CARB SIDE,CYLs ARE 123 LEFT TO RIGHT?.DIST 1 IS MARKED,THEN 2 AND 3 COUNTER CLOCKWISE?

#1 is on the fan end, 3 at the gas tank. CCW rotation, looking down at the rotor

i dont own a gasser.. but on my 3000 diesel.. down is more throttle..

Sound guy is right about the throttle.

Its been ten years since I sold my 3 cyl. 2000 gasser, but I remember pulling the throttle back toward the seat when I wanted more gas. I'd be pulling that throttle back half way or better and choking her. It's nearly impossible to flood those things out with that updraft carb. If your getting good gas flow and you have been cranking it alot without starting, you should see signs of gas dripping down into the air intake pipe on the bottom of the carb.

The condenser, points, cap and rotor were the only issues I ever had with mine starting. There's alot of manuals out there for these tractors. It may be wise to spend a little time at a farm store browsing the ignition sections to see if there is a manual that may help ensure that you set all the sparking parts right.

You open the throttle by pulling the lever down.
Axiom:You have to have a good spark at the right time andthe correct fuel/air ratio to start a spark ignition engine in reasonable mechanical shape.

Pull the center wire on the distributor cap, hold it near a good ground and try a start. You should have a FAT, BLUISH-WHITE SPARK, the color of lightning. If you don't, then something is not right in the primary ignition circuit. (oily, corroded, maladjusted, or burned points, bad condensor, bad key switch, broken primary wire, bad connection, etc.) Check to make sure that you have the correct firing order. Did you rotate the distributor at all? If so you may have moved it off time.

If you have the requisite spark, then do you have fuel to the carb? Are the plugs wet with fuel?

Do some simple diagnostics of the ignition system and the fuel system and you'll find the problem. Don't throw parts at it.

low comp can be helped on a 1-time basis by a teaspoon of oil to seal the rings. however if it has 0 comp.. it's not just a rings issue. even worn rings will make enough compression to make pops thru the manifold.. ( stuck valves can cause problems! )

THANKS ALOT.I HAVE GOOD SPARK AT PLUGS AND REPLACED ALL IGNITION FROM COIL TO PLUGS BUT FOR 3 WIRES WHICH SHOW UP GOOD AS HAVING CONTINUITY ANYWAY,POINTS,COND,CAP,ROTOR,PLUGS AND 1 WIRE WHICH WAS BAD FOR SURE ANDI MADE A NEW ONE..I THINK I WAS FLOODING IT AS IVE HAD THE THROTTLE PULLED DOWN MOSTLY..INITIALLY I GOT SOME GAS DRIPPING OUT CARB BOTTOM BUT THAT STOPPED,GAS IS SUPPOSEDLY 11 MONTHS OLD AND DOESNT REALLY SMELL BAB BAD,,I MIXED A GAL OR SO OF NEW IN..GOIN BACK THIS AM,WILL RECHECK POINTS GAP,DRY PLUGS,DOUBLE BATTERY TO CRANK AS I WAS USIN A CAR BATTERY BUT SEEMED TO TURN IT OK,MAYBE NEEDS A BIT FASTER CRANK,IT HAS TO POP ON ETHER!!! THANKS,JIM.

The firing order is cast into the manifold and is 1-2-3 and so labelled. Firing order does not refer to cylinder number arrangement in the engine, but the order in which sparkplug wires are attached to the distributer, in the direction of normal rotation. Most, but not all inline engines number the cylinders from front to back, or pulley to flywheel.

Be polite and turn your caps LOCK OFF!

THANKYOU,MY NEW TRACTOR IS HOME AT MY BARN!!..I RECHECKED ALL MY CONNECTIONS,RESET POINT GAP..DID TSP OF OIL IN 2 EASY CYLINDERS..THEN I HAD THROTTLE ROD IN PROPER POSITION,ALL THE WAY UP,HARD..JUMPED MY TRUCK TO FRESH BAT ON TRACTOR..INSTEAD OF BLOWING ETHER IN CARB BOTTOM I REALLY JUST KEPT SQUIRTING IN AIR INTAKE ALOT,,IT SLOWLY STARTED TO STRNG SOME POPS TOGETHER!!!.THEN IT RAN!!..RAN IT FOR 15,,NO SMOKE OUT OF STACK AT ALL,ALL SEEMED WELL,,TSTAT DIDNT OPEN YET BUT I WANTED TO GET IT HOME,,OIL IS BLACK AND IN A PERFECT WORLD I WOULD HAVE CHANGED IT BEFORE THE 3.5 MILE RIDE HOME,,,WORKED GREAT UP AND DOWN HILLS ETC,,LOT OF SMOKE OUT OF CRANKCASE VENT...DIRTY OIL?..AFTER PARKED IT DRIPPED SOME WHITISH GOO OUT OF THERE TOO,MAYBE A TLBS...THANKS SOUNDGUY,,JIM
