I don't think Petes and Kenworths have crew cabs do they? Or can you put seat that are leagal in a sleeper?
As long as every passenger has belts, seats in place of a bed are legal.

You can readily find 330-335 Petes, T300 KW's Freightliner FL's and M2's, and IH's with crew cabs marketed to the horse crowd. Power wise, they are going to have 8.3 Cummins, C7/3126 CAT's, Mercedes, and DT466's. Not the HP builder suggested. Expect to pay.
If you can live with a sleeper outfitted with with a seat, the market is in your favor. Single axles sleepers are far and away not as easy to find as tandems but they are out there. I don't know if you want an auto or a stick but the auto is also going to be more scarce.
Also, you can get a lot of truck for your money if you step from the Class 6's to the Class 7's.

If you're going to pull a heavy load, do it the White way. As most everyone has said, you need to look beyond a pickup. A Ford F-450 pickup is rated at 33,000# GVWR but it won't be enough truck for your weights. You're in the International 4900, Ford F-650, Chevrolet 6500 territory. Lots of used beverage trucks equipped with air brakes and fifth wheels. If you bought a truck with air brakes you can use an air/electric brake controller for use with trailers with electric brakes.

That's one honey of a White. Congrats on the restoration.

No offense, but I'd take my Duramax any day over the CAT C-7 in that freightliner:laughing: . 7 litres is not enough for the kind of load the OP wants to pull.
You need at least a 10L mill for towing a 30K trailer without struggle. trust me. You'll get bitten by the HP bug and with you had an M-11, N-14, etc.

I pull a 25,000lb trailer with my 4800. I have a DTA466 factory modified to 250HP and then tweaked even more by me up to at least 275HP and I wish I had more.

Mostly, I was pointing out the cost of admission and following up on my previous thread on what's out there.

My FL70 has a 3126 (the C7 predecessor for those who don't know) and it does just fine with a gross in the low thirties. One of the trucks I drove delivering pole barns was a Pete 335 single axle, C7 8spd pulling a tandem roll off for delivering trusses. As I recall, the GVCW it was licensed for was around 56k. It would "wimper" at the smallest of hills.

I don't care for M-11's but that N-14 pulls and gets good mileage. So does the C-12 CAT.

Here is one all set up, plenty of seats with belts, a drop down sleeper berth, plenty of HP with an autoshift.I would not want it if my use involved farm or job site use. Great for the road though.

I don't know much about big trucks but had a friend buy a Pete several years ago and got the tandem converted to a single axle for free by letting the shop keep the tandem stuff. He told me older tandem tractors were near worthless compared to a single. Worth thinking about????
