Someone told me that you can not put a backhoe on a BX1850. Only the BX2200 and BX 23,24,25. Is this true?

And if yes, will it have enough HP to get normal jobs done?

You can mount a Woods BH6000 on your tractor. All the information is posted on their website. If you do a search of past threads from member blackmajicwoman you can see all the jobs done with a Woods hoe on a BX1500.

All BX models with a 2 digit number come with a Kubota bh specific to that exact tractor. All BX models with 4 digits after that do not have a Kubota bh available, however the Woods BH6000 will fit on every 4 digit BX ever made. You just have to get the correct subframe to mate the two.

Here is the link to blackmajicwoman's (he's a guy) BX1500 with that bh:

The hydraulic pump on a BX not designed for BH work is quite small so things will get done - just not very quickly if that is an issue.

It is my understanding that the hydraulic pump has the same pressure. This issue was discussed a number of times (in great depth) when the BX1500 and BX1800 first came out and several members dug up the stats indicating that even though the engine was smaller, the hydro pump was the same and generated the same pressure. Now I could be wrong on this, but I am pretty certain I remember this correctly. I don't have time to do it right now, but the best thing would be for someone to go look up the hydro pump pressure and gpm on a BX25, BX1860, BX2360, and BX2660 so we can look at exact numbers. My BX2200 is certainly not underpowered for the Woods BH6000 that I use on it. blackmajicwoman's writing and pictures seem to speak for themselves re. his BX1500 and Woods bh. A lot of members didn't think he would be able to do what he accomplished.

The BX1800 and BX2200's hydraulic pump output is 5.5 gpm. Some of that is used for the power steering.

Not saying that a BH won't work - just that it is not designed for it.

When i got my BX1500 I was doing excavating and a friend said he had a back hoe that would fit the Kubota 1500 class 1 hitch. Well it did but was a 16" back hoe, weighed 750 pounds and took my Kubota front wheels right off the ground. 10 cement blocks in the front end loader balanced it and let me move that monster back hoe. I dug tree stumps and had no problems with it at all. Would dig in and scoop a big deep overflowing bucket full and dump it with ease. The tractor never even change speed when i was digging heavy or working on a stump.
Granted that back hoe was too large but my point is that my little BX1500 did the job, even with a 16" bucket and a back hoe that was way to heavy for my machine.

Your point is well taken that the tractor had enough power. There are two big concerns about this approach, however.

Attaching a bh to the tractor at the 3ph exposes the frame and hitch to excessive torque. The Woods bh comes with a sub-frame that runs all the way to the front of the tractor, stiffens the frame, and supports the bh. Also, the 3ph unit is mounted farther away from the frame, putting leveraged (magnified) force on the connections. The 3ph also is nowhere as strong as the 4ph hitch that is at the end of the sub-frame. 3ph backhoes can rip the hitch right off the tractor and camber the frame. In this case, putting a big 3ph bh on a little tractor is a situation that could easily have destroyed your tractor. The Woods BH6000 addresses all the potential problems of putting a bh on a BX. Putting a big 3ph bh on a BX1500 is a huge risk.

The second issue is that this bh does not run directly off the tractor hydraulics, it runs off the PTO. Hydraulic energy is transferred into mechanical energy at the PTO, then the PTO torque is converted into back into hydro energy again inside the bh. All this conversion leads to great loss of efficiency. The hydro pump in the tractor can easily get overstressed and burn out.

You were fortunate not to have damaged your tractor. I would highly recommend not using a 3ph bh on your tractor again.
