What's wrong with Fram filters? Just curious...I'm using OEM and I've never had an opportunity to use any of the above filters. Actually I think I've only seen the fleetguard filters but I can't recall where...

Instead of me typing two pages try a google search, you'll have lots of reading and you can make your own judgment..

Were these canister filters? SG? if not they should easily be able to cross over.

nope.. not canisters.. a spin on style. and yes.. they cross over just fine.. to a product that doesn't work and roaches your old allis chalmers engine!!! fram still builds some filters using a floss media.. crossing those filters over to wix and napa and baldwin gives you a paper pleated filter element hiding inside the can... then when you start your allis oil pressure drops tot he toilet and if you don't stop her and put the CORRECT fram filter on you can kiss the engine good by!!.

just because another filter screws on.. don't mean it's correct!!!!! has to be built the way the OEM designed it for that application

Oil Filters | Products | FRAM® Read the different specs and compare the % of stuff the filter can stop. Keep in mine many cars at one point in time shipped without any oil filters. It is easy to become emotional about oil filters.

Fram makes different price range of filters and they all seem to work quite well but the Tough Guard will spec out like a Mobile One filter (99%).

You will find a lot of posts on the web slamming Fram and from the Youtube videos that i have seen often are showing a filter that has not been changed for years/10,000+ miles.

Most Fram slamming comes from emotional reactions to what another may say than from actual personal experience. If 1/2 of 1% of the negative stuff was true they would not be selling millions around the world today. :D

I under stand all that and know all that... but "floss media"??? never heard of it and did a google search on it.

#edit# ..i did a search here and read up the AC thing you mentioned and cant for the life of me under stand why a more restrictive filter would be needed to build proper operating oil pressure but just the contrary, bad engine design, engine wore out? if bearing clearances are right and pump is working i don't see why.

But anyway..any of todays filters are of a cellulose paper design or a Synthetic glass media or glass micro fiber media in the synthetic version filters and WILL NOT hamper oil flow in any way on a modern engine IF crossed to the right PN, that manufacture in question would not want that type of liability and has done intensive testing on that filter. Most any filter today will have flow, thread design and bypass specs so you can compare them to your OEM.

i'm not arguing with you just trying to under stand your floss media comment,it's hard to believe FRAM would be the only maker of filter for that application.

i cross filters all the time at work with out issues and this is on 1/4 million dollar pieces of equipment.

matter of fact CAT sent us a memo that we had a superseded one of the hyd filters on our one unit and told us the appropriate number to do so.

so yes any filter that will screw on with matching specs will work.

Well no technically not according to the ISO 4548-12 for particle test FRAMs best designed filter the Extended Guard or next the Tough Guard is 97-99% @ 20 microns. and that's ONLY on equivalent PN's PH8A, 3387A and 6607

The Mobil is 99.2% @20 percent efficiency rating (under SAE J1858 Multi-Pass Efficiency Test), across the board all PN's so splitting hairs i know but just saying..
