Backhoe Best option for digging 6+ft with PT425

Flow is not an issue with cylinders but pressure is. Also, these would not be run on the PTO circuit but on the low flow circuit.

Its low flow, but its still high pressure. There's a full 2500psi on the aux PTO circuit. So, a large cylinder will just operate slower due to the lower GPM on the aux PTO circuit VS the main PTO circuit. But it will still have just as much pressure as if operated from the main PTO. Both the main and aux PTO circuits are rated at 2500psi.

If you were to install the same model mini-hoe on different machines, all using 3000 psi, you would have the same force. The GPM flow will dictate speed of operation, and the operator can also vary that flow by feathering the valve, or switch from low flow to high flow.

Don't know why Power-Trac switched valves from adjustable.variable speed PTO valve like I have on my 1445, to the solelnoid valve, which is instant on, and full flow. Of course you can vary the engine rpm also.

I always wondered that, too. Probably they saw no need to have the high flow on the main PTO to be variable, just on or off. We ( we, being PT owners ) have managed to find some very creative uses for that main PTO.

Unless you are digging sand, a 425 is going to have a tough time with that bucket width, and 6 feet of reach past the QA plate is a heck of a leverage disadvantage.

Very good point...! I guess digging with a PT-425 should stay within the 4ft depth range, and only consider a PT-1430 for anything more than PT's minihoe.

Thanks,

Thanks for all the posts JJ.

I wonder if perhaps PT added the solenoid PTO valve as a safety interlock? With the solenoid control, you can design the engine not to start if the PTO is engaged.

With a valve, you don't know the state of the valve, and could potentially start the attachment while starting the engine.

Not that I have any inside information; it is just a thought.

All the best,

Peter
