Why no ag tires on the 2000 series?

I've been looking (longingly) at the 55 series tractors - a lot of people talk about how it was the perfect tractor series from JD.
So, I took out the 55-series brochure I've had for years and discovered almost all of the tractors - even those with mid-mount mowers - have ag tires in the literature.

Back when the x55 series (as well as the x50 series and the x70 series) Deeres were being sold, there weren't many going to residential owners. Most were going to commercial enterprises of some sort (golf courses and landscapers) and small farms (and larger farms that had need for a small tractor). Any residential use was limited to those who had an estate large enough to justify them.
Turf tires for the golf courses, of course. Ags for the small farms.
Didn't see many with R-4's as these machines weren't used in industrial or construction applications.
As most subCUTs are primarily used as big lawn mowers, I can't see manufacturers offering a tire option that would be rarely purchased.
BTW, I'm defining subCUT as any tractor weighing less then 2000 lbs...that's MY definition.

Guess my personal definition is those with garden tractor size tires that cause them to sit so low to the ground it's not possible to have a full cat 1 hitch. You can see at a glance which ones those are.

BTW you probably know R4 tires were not available on x55 tractors. Just ag or turf.

Roy, less than a ton is actually a good size and weight break. I can agree with you on this. I am just not sure that I can consider these little things as tractors.

I don't think R-4's were available on any CUTs back then...just didn't want to make a blanket statement.

I also do not recall any CUT's back then offering R4 tires, but wanted to stay away from that blanket statement.

My 1988 JD650 had what I would call a great rear tire.

BTW, I was on the third set in the front when it left. Ran chains on the rear, all year from day one.

Yeah, that's a bar turf. Great tires...had 'em on my old 670.
Pretty common on garden tractors, IIRC. I don't know if they're still available for subCUTs. The bar turf would be a good tire for them.

They might not have been offered from the beginning but R4s are presently available on JDParts for x55.
