I think it would have been too risky - truck was on too much of a slant.ITHINKICAN, Prior to calling in the large tow truck I wonder why they didn't try to offload the material to take the weight off of the trailer? Thanks for the updates, keep the pics coming!
The delivery was included with purchase of metal. I believe the trucking company hired the tow truck. Structure went up in approx 5 days. That was the primary crew but another crew ultimately showed up to try and assist. It was the entire building package... minus one roof panel, approx 18 washers, many closure strips and a few screws... of course the metal company swears they sent everything and our builder swears the items never arrived. :confused2:Who paid for the tow truck? Hopefully the trucking co. right?
Oh you are so close ITC, Hopefully they will have better luck putting that sucker together! It's gonna go up quick!
Noticed a lot of x-tra hands on site, are they the building crew?
Is that the entire building package? If it is it's amazing that a 60x40x16 can fit on a trailer.
There were many pallets. It took them most of the day to unload.Anybody ever watch "swamp loggers". In this situation they always PUSH the trailer. The dont try and pull the truck and trailer.
I think it would have been quicker to unload the trailer. Also if it wasn't that far just stack the material at the off load site. Did the load come off in two packages?
I'm guessing because of the way things were situated it would been difficult or unsafe to unload though.
Wedge
Yep - it would have made quite a splash.I would have been very nervous that when the straps were loosened the load would have slid off the trailer.
Not sure if it was possible...I'M GUESSING BECAUSE OF THE WAY THINGS WERE SITUATED IT WOULD BEEN DIFFICULT OR UNSAFE TO UNLOAD THOUGH.
I'm thinking if they put the forks in from the high side of the trailer and secured the load to the forks they could have easily tilted the load "level" and lifted the load off. The important part would have been to make sure the load was really secured to the forks to prevent the load from sliding.
The metal building company required the payment once the truck was unloaded - materials only. The builder was someone they recommended. This is one of those situations that has disaster and injury written all over it.
While I general try to be a nice guy and help out when I can, as soon as the truck got stuck, I would have walked aways, telling the builder he needed to resolve it.
ITHINKICAN,
You said the builder required the balance of the payment once the truck arrived and before it was unloaded..was that just the balance for the materials or was it for materials and construction?
I don't believe a 40x60 building can be built without an experienced crew. I don't recommend it. Even with an experienced crew - many challenges!First post here.
New to all this.
We are fixing to put up a 40 x 60 "barndominium" same size basically.
I am going to try to do all that I can myself including erection of the building.
I won't do the concrete though. I need that to be done correctly.
I am watching this with great interest.
It took approx 5 days to erect. They have come back out several times to try and fix their errors. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out as good as we planned. We'll start posting pictures this weekend - forecast is for rain and Super Bowl isn't until next weekend...So, how is the building coming???
