Anybody have a sleep number or comfortaire mattress?

...but then I've slept better in a recliner than any bed for years now.

Ditto here. The best sleep I've ever gotten has been in my recliner at home and in the hospital bed when I had my knee replacements.

Wish I could afford (and wife would agree) to a dual "hospital style" bed at home. ....

Have a had a queen size Sleep Number for about 8 yrs. LOVE IT!!!
only thing I have notices is the padding between the two mattresses seems to be getting weak. Will need to contact Select Comfort and see what they will do.
Kinda causes me and the Mrs. to roll towards each other.... Not such a bad thing:)

Firedog,

Why not the "memory foam"? too hot?? other reason?

We have been considering the Temperpedic, but I am wondering if it "cooks' you like I have heard, (traps heat) which wont work for me.

We have a pillow top now and it is doing what y'all have posted, (sagging). So....

I've heard similar comments about "heat trapping" but our decision on the memory foam is the way it tends to form around you, makes it hard to move. We laid on a couple and really didn't like them, but that may be one of those things you get used to.
I found this website while researching and it seems to be fairly objective. Mattress Reviews & Ratings : How to Sleep Better : Beat Insomnia : Sleep Like the Dead

Serta has a new mattress out; "perfect sleeper" I think, that has a duel firmness mattress: firm one side & semi-firm the other, etc. I would like to look into that more. Still, I'm not looking forward to spending $1500+ on a mattress.

I got tired of buying mattresses that would last only about three years and then have a sunken place to sleep on. I thought the idea of the memory foam sounded good, liked it for a while then it too sunk in where I sleep. We went to the Sleep number store because we got a flyer that advertised a queen size for $597. I was fine with that one, but the wife really liked the one with padding on the top, wound up spending a little over 2000 for mattress and foundation. I like the bed a lot and was told that the bladder is the same in all the beds so if I had to do over, I'd just got the $597 model and added a $100 foam topper under the cover. That's what you wind up with anyway, basic bladder and foam topper. I could buy a lot of foam toppers for the difference. Just pointing out that the price goes WAY up from the "get you in there price" and all you really get is padding.

We have an air bed made by National, Who makes them for Hospitals. Was expensive but worth every cent! People who say I was crazy paying that much, I ask them, how much of your life do you spend in bed?????? :confused2: :D

You are correct and a good nights sleep is a blessing.. Buy once and cry once (sorta like buying cheap throwaway tools)..

IF you look at the life expectancy of a mattress its well worth the money to spend it once.. So far we our queen bed was $900 ($300/yr cost lasted 3 yrs), our current king was $2000 ($444/yr lasted 4.5 yrs)...

I am expecting to get at least 10 yrs out of our new latex foam mattress we just ordered, some ppl are getting 20 yrs out of their mattress.. so that should be between $200 or less/yr

Dennis, one good thing is that the different manufacturers do offer a certain length of time you can try out a bed and return it if you don't like it. I never would have bought the Sleep Number bed if I hadn't been assured I could return it if we didn't like it. So when it arrived, and we assembled it, I kept the boxes, just in case. However, as it turned out, we still have it and if anything happened to it, I'd have to buy another one.

Bird,
Good point. I have seen those commercials, but skeptical me.

I liked our pillow top for about 2 years, glad to here some positive feedback on the newer concept beds.

Firedog,
Thanks for the web site, I will go through it for sure.

Sometime around 2005 or 2006, I think, we bought a foam bed from Memory Foam Mattress | Latex Mattresses | Dormia. Our Bone Cracker recommended them and we finally bought the mattress.

It is the best bed I have ever slept on and it is quiet.

It did smell for a few days or so. Funny thing is that it is HEAVY. The mattress came rolled up. And when it was rolled up it was sorta easy to move around. Bulky but doable. Once unrolled and filled with air it was a real pain to move. :D Never knew air was so heavy.

We are planning to get a new bed frame this year. I am not looking forward to moving that mattress.

Later,
Dan

Here are a few pics of our new natural latex bed.. it was just delivered yesterday.. It is a three 3" layers - bottom = x-firm, middle = firm, top = medium.. The layers can be interchanged for personal comfort..

It feels quite 'stiff' right now, but it is suppose to get softer within the first week or so..
