Price Check L3940

To the best of my knowledge:

1) Swivel seat as stated before. No big deal to me.
2) PTO knob. I like my lever. More mechanical feel and less shock when engaging and disengaging. I did have to replace the pto knob on my 1997 Deere.
3) How the FEL control lever goes into the tractor. The rubber and placement is improved on the -3. The rubber is alway popping out of mine, drives me nuts.
4) 'L3940' decal on hood. -3 is more block and slant style.

I had a -1 and just got a -3. The ATA lever is down around your shin/knees on the -1 and the -3 its by the steering wheel. I am getting use to the pto switch instead of lever. The jury is still out on that for me. The dash panel is different in appearance but believe it still functions the same. Don't know if the seat on the cab model is different on the -3's because my seat is gray and black where the -1 open station was all black and different style vinyl. The inside is pretty cush IMO. Almost makes we want drive it to town to get groceries .

If it was a safety issue, it should have also been adopted on the other models, but our new M8540 has the lever rather than a button; who knows.

What year is your M8540? I think the Grand L -3's are only a year or two old, aren't they. Maybe Kubota hadn't invented the PTO knob yet when you got yours?

On the -1 and -2, the auto throttle advance (had to look that up!?) is on the steering column just below the steering wheel. In my applications, this is not something I change very often. When I mow or use PTO type operation, it is off. Almost any other time it is on. Philip.

I agree, it is no big deal for the very reason you state. It could have stayed where it was and it would not have mattered to me.

Do you have a FEL lever lock? On the -3 it's where the PTO lever was. The knob is up next to the 3pt lever. The auto throttle is in the same location.

I like that style much better than the -3. The new one is a wire bent in a u shape. You lift it up and rotate it then push it down. When I looked at your last picture and saw the valve lock I thought it was your PTO lever.

I could not agree more...actually I have just about made up my mind to buy the Kubota. Both are very high end tractors but the Kubota has better resale-at least in Oregon. Beppington; your pics helped me make my decision.

I do not think the JD3520 will handle any better then the Kubota, on the other hand I know I will get speared more on the Kubota. High profile will literally hurt more in an Asian Pear orchard.

I wonder if the dealer sells chain mail? Some or most sell Stihl chain saws so maybe I can get them to throw in some Kevlar vests and chaps with the new tractor?

I am convinced that between $25.5k and $26.5k will get me a new L3940. Looks like as soon as my bullet proof B7800 goes I will be driving a new one!

We just bought it this summer, but I did not check on the date of manufacture.
