Gas cans

I just bought a dump truck that has a tank on each side, but only the one on the driver side is connected to the engine. The passenger side has an air tank hooked to it and a hose with a nozzle so you can fill it with whatever type of fuel you need for your tractor or whatever, and just fill it up using the air tank to force the fuel out. This is going to cut way down on my gas can use.

That is a clever plan.
Is that a good enough excuse to get a dump truck??? :)

No it is not. I don't need an excuse to get the dump truck. I got it because I want it. I have wanted one for 50 years. It's a toy, like a lot of our tractors are. I will get good use out of it ocassionally, and yes, it would have been far more reasonable to rent one when needed. But what fun is that??:D

I hate the spouts on the new cans but I've found a great solution. Its called a jiggle siphon. Its basically a clear plastic hose with a copper end on it. Inside of the copper end is a 1 way check valve. You put that end into the gas can and jiggle it up and down. It starts the fuel siphoning. I set my gas cans up high, use the jiggle siphon and go do other things while my tank fills up. It empties a 5 gallon can pretty quickly and you don't have to stand there holding the can. This option also means you no longer care what kind of spout the can has.

You can buy jiggle siphons at a lot of local stores. I bought mine at a local fleet store.

I have an older International dump truck that's 4wd. It's fun to drive occasionally but if I had to spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week driving it I would be 6 inches shorter and would have shaven a good 5 years off my life as I bounced down the road. Mine also had dual 53 gallon tanks but I pulled one off and put the battery box on the passenger side. Never thought about turning the spare tank into a giant gas can.

Those steel cans are nice but for $100 you can get a 15 gallon Blitz fuel station.

If you're like me one 5 gallon can isn't enough.

Where might someone find one of these ''fuel stations?"

I really like the no-spill CARB cans that have the side handle to hold them while the spout is in the gas tank, then push the spring-loaded plunger to open and let the gas or diesel flow.
Can be seen at
Bailey's - Fuel Cans & Fuel Additives > No Spill

I can also buy them at a local Kubota / New Holland / Stihl dealer close by.
In my opinion, they are the best for not spilling and for easy of getting the fuel in the tank.

I'm another fan of the no-spill brand container. I have a two gallon size I use for the two stroke engines. It makes it easy to fill a chain saw or a weedwacker without running gasoline all over the place. The only problem I had was the black plastic ring cracked. The company has upgraded to a better plastic. Anyone who has a nozzle with the yellow dust cover can get a free replacement nozzle from the company by calling. The new ones have a clear dust cover.
