Ford 101 Plow ???

   / Ford 101 Plow ??? #21
I have been reading the posts here on Ford 101 plows. I have now a set of three bottom 101 14" . They are painted blue which so I am told made by Oliver for Ford. My question is--- Where do I find the serial number on them???? All I have a 101 on one side. I have the owners manual but no where does it tell anything about serial number.

I have always heard the Oliver made the 101 for Ford, however, why don't I see that exact same plow with the Oliver colors and decals. Never seen one. Anyone got pics? Oliver made a excellent trip beam plow and it does not resemble the Ford 101 in any way. I will post a Oliver plow picture below. Ken Sweet

Apparently it was a Ford design, which was produced exclusively for Ford. Pittsburg Plow & Iron built 'em also. Pittsburg had their own line of plows which didn't resemble Ford plows either. From what I know, Ford had the lions share of their implement line produced by outside "contractors" "back in the day".

Some Oliver shares will interchange with those on Ford 101 plows.

Thanks FWJ, that makes sense to me. Good to have you back on TBN. Ken Sweet

My thanks to all for the information about the Ford 101 model plow. But, back to my question = where on the plow do I find the stamped Serial Number???

If you are missing your aluminum serial # tag located on the left side of the plow A-Frame (standing behind the plow) you wont have one. Ken Sweet

David,
Go to the first post in this thread, and look at the first picture. You can see the small aluminum tag that Ken is referring to.

That tag might have worn away enough the serial# doesn't show any more. And a lot of those plows get smacked with a sandblaster during their life on earth. But that little tag is where all the #'s SHOULD be.

Always willing to add to the confusion..... Wiese Industries Home Page

No mention of 101 series in conjunction with Oliver bottoms.

Here are wear parts to fit the 101 (among others) http://www.wieseindustries.com/to-f...purpose-and-heavy-duty-series_p_-1,79,225.cfm

Don't expect "modern" replacement plow parts to fit like they did back in the day.

Never hurts to ask your DEALER to check stock/availability/price. I rebuilt a Massey Ferguson plow a few years ago. When I was running out of options for available aftermarket parts, I asked the MF dealer I work with. 3 days later, I had new landslides, shares, and cover boards. His price was 1/3 less that the aftermarket parts that were on back order to begin with.

Many thanks guys. I have no tag on the left side. Must have come off. Now I know where it should have been. I will make do. I have a good manual and parts manual which I should make out ok. If I need more help I will be back.

Thanks again.

Ford 101's were built under contract with White/Oliver and Pittsburg Plow. None were built by John Deere.
12" shares are getting ever increasingly difficult to find. On my Massey Ferguson plows, I can use a 16" share on 14" or 12" frames. I simply cut them down to the length of a standard 12" or 14" share. Not sure if that's an option with Ford 101's or not.

So how does one measure the "Share" size? Which is harder to find and thus more value, 12",14" or 16" shares. And how to measure? Which is of more value, larger (16" or smallest 12"? regards,
regards,
Steve
