I just purchased a new 5740 and am wondering if this is normal. On a steep downhill the hydro trans seems to give and go while holding the tractor back. I have a 4610 with hydro and in the same situation if you hold the pedal at a certain point it will hold you back at that exact speed. the new one seems to give and catch. Do yours do that.

Thanks

Haven't noticed it with my 5240 , have a guy with a 5740 doing a job I'll check with him too.

I have the smaller L3240 but have never experienced anything like you are describing.Mine seems to hold a steady speed on down hills.

I haven't noticed that on my L3940, but it's pretty flat everywhere I operate mine.

That is not normal for an HST. What range were you in?

Does it let completely go and then grab or does it pick up speed smoothly?

Mine did it until I realized that because I didn't have loaded tires and if I was in 2wd the rear tires would slide. I could hear the tires sliding though, in a caab that could be a little harder.

Doesn't happen on my L4740 and I run on some pretty steep slopes.

Is the HST fluid low, perhaps? If you are on a steep slope, low fluid may be letting air into the transmission circuits, causing it to freewheel intermittently.
