This last pic is just the sides welded to the floor. I was having devil of a time weldding with my bifocals!! I get new glasses this month and will get a pair of just the lower focal strength so I can see to weld! I took a weld test at work in January and could not see what the instructor was talking about "keep the puddle even" until he gave me his "special" glasses and wow what a differance!!!

I have been using my battery charger to operate the dump because I don't have a battery yet and from full down posssition to full dump is 45 seconds and 45 seconds back to full down. I think that will be good. I am still tinkering with the idea of using the battery and also putting some "T"'s in the lines and using the rear remotes to dump also. I dont know if my B7510 will have enough power to dump it full with dirt or not.

Nice looking trailer 600 rider. Now paint it and let's see it in action.

I don't see why your tractor would not have the power to make the dump work.

I don't see how some of these guys do it... "I had a few hours this afternoon and I built a 1/3 scale fully functional replica of a combine out of old Ford Pinto parts and some bed rails."

Iplayfarmer, That is about the funniest statement I have read in a while here. I feel your pain I REALLY DO.

I cut and formed the battery box last night at work. I used .090 material same as the floor and sides of the dump bed. I put a return flange on the top edge to give it strength and a "soft" edge. It is 12"x12"x20" long. I also put a divider with a "hem" on the top inside to seperate the battery and selinoids from the control switch. I also have a trickle charger in my old camper that I am contemplating putting in the box to keep the battery up.
the first pic is the pieces of the box, next is the box welded together and just sitting on the tongue. I need to find or make a support for the lid to hold it open. I also need to figure out some sort of a hold down for the battery. I am going to get a deep cell marine battery tomorrow and hopefuly going to take the dump to the neighbors to see if he will load some dirt in it to test it out!!! He has a skid loader and some piles of dirt so I hope he has the time.

Question, Should I bolt or weld the box to the tongue?

My suggestion... Bolt the box on.

If you mount it right, an air spring can not only hold your lid open, but can also hold it shut. See the attached sketches. I've hidden the near side of the box so that you can see what the air spring is doing inside.

Gonna get it dirty before ya paint 'er? I'd bolt it down. It's a lot easier to get it out of the way when something needs mending under or around it. Just weld tabs to the hitch frame for drilling through to avoid weakening it.

Iplay and NormL, I took your thoughts about bolting it on and decided that if anything would break the box is going to be on the tongue so it wouldn't interfear so I would weld it on anyway and that would add strength to the tongue. So thats what I was going to do right up until I got home from work and went out to weld it on then went straight to the steel rack and grabbed a piece of 1.5x1.5x.125 angle iron and cut 2 pieces to length drilled 2 holes in one and 1 hole in the other and welded them to the tongue and drilled the bottom of the battery box and Bolted it on as you sugjested! In the end I took your advice because if needed I could remove the box for whatever reason and that made sense.

Iplay I do like your lid support idea and would like to use it but my box is only 12" wide and the return flange is 1/2". Not big enough to mount the ball stud for the stationary end. Also there is only.400 between the outside wall and the return flange so I woudn't be able to get the nut on the stud anyway. Also not sure I could find a strut that short. So I went to the local Ace Hardware and bought a standard lid support bracket and bolted it on and it works great!! I think the pollished brass finish adds a little class!!
He also sold me the battery cables and some stud ends to crimp on the cables. as you can see in the first two pics the red cable looks like I taped it up......well I did because all he had was black cables, I told him I needed one black and one red, he said "oh why didn't you say so in the first place, hold on I will be right back" when he came back he sold me some red tape to wrap the cable with!!!!!!!!! :p

Easygo,I was talking to my neighbor about a dump he made from a 1 ton dump truck, he cut the cab off the frame and bent the frame into an "A" and welded a hitch up to pull with his 100+ hp ford tractor. He uses the rear remotes from the tractor to dump it but it dosen't have the power to get it "started" by itself he needs to "help" it with his skidsteer and only uses it for silage and sawdust!!!! :confused2: I haven't plumbed the system for my tractor but may do so at some point down the road.
