The lid latch you got looks good.

Even though you bolted the box on, it will still add some support to the tongue, etc.

the pollished brass finish adds a little class!!
.

Oh come on, 600r; the whole project is a class act. The polished brass fits right in!:drool:

Just my 2 cents but any time your battery box needs to add strength to the hitch, the hitch is too weak and you will twist the box, making opening and closing the lid difficult. In fact, that is how you will know there has been something going on.

Just a question

Why did you put the wheels so far back...

Not criticizing;just want to know your reasoning behind it

Thx

Why did you put the wheels so far back...

Thx

thats where they are on the King Kutter XB. Well not that far back but I put them farther back because I wanted the backend of the dump as high as possible when it dumps and figured that the weight would be over the tires and keep the dump from tipping up in front when dumped.
I guess what I was thinking was to keep the distance from the dump pivot point to the pivot point of the axles (the fulcrum)as short as possible.

very nice job, i have a 4x8 1.5 ton normand dump trailer with wet lines for the tractor. i want to install an electric-hydraulic unit like yours to use with my 4 wheeler. my question to you is how to chose from all the types of hyd units out there? there seems to be variety of prices/pressures etc..? how did you decide which one to go with. my cylinder is double acting also. any info from the group would be helpful. by the way, the walking beam works great huh, i realy like mine, very smooth over rough terrain. thanks

Thank you Fatboyinmaine, The way I chose my power unit is, I worked in maintainance at work and this hydraulic table we had broke and we are not alowed to weld on "lifting devices" so they were throwing it out and I scarfed the power unit and cylinder!! The table was a #4000 lift so I guessed it would work. I don't know if it will dump dirt yet as I have not been able to test it. My cylinder is also a double acting cylinder and it does work nice.
Beyond that all I know is there is a differance in power units if you have a double acting vs single acting cylnder. Maybe someone else can give you more info.

600rider,

Thanks for explaining

Very nice job. Can't wait to see it painted and a YouTube video

It will be tongue heavy. I guess that doesn't matter using with a tractor

I've always centered the tandems about 2/3 back from the front of the bed for good balance. To each his own

Good luck with your new trailer!

I took my wheels to the shop last night and had them shot blasted and are now raw steel I am hopeing to get them powder coated white tonight but there is no powder coater on 3rd shift, so I hope someone on 2nd is staying over, if not I will just get them primer coated in the paint shop. Here are some before and after shots.

So I got to the shop last night and asked the powder coaters if anybody was staying late so I could get my wheels powder coated and nobody was. :( So I went over to the paint shop and asked them and a guy was staying so I decided to just have them primered and then I would paint them with a spray can at home. The maintance man was asking me why I don't powder coat them and I told him nobody was staying late. He said "you don't need them, I can show you how to do it. It's easier than painting!" So we did powder coat them!! :D
the first pic is steam cleanning them with a phosphate cleaner.
then powder coating and finaly baking them in the oven at 450* for about 30 minutes.

I took them to a local tire shop this morning and bought 4 tubes and had them mount them up. TSC wanted $19.99 ea. At this tire shop they charged me $13 ea. or $55.12 MOUNTED!!!!
And they look great!
