I'll be darned. I just did a retail locator and there is one about 15 mi from me. Never knew there was such a brand. I also see Carquest and NAPA in other towns a lot farther away also carry it. Now we have the same business here in town but are not listed as a retailer. I wonder why? I'll have to get down to Stone Lake and check your product out. Thanks for the heads up.

sw03: I've tried to attach technical data sheets in the past and have'nt been able to. If there is something specific you are looking for I will answer it or the TD sheet is available off Schaeffer home page.
Toyboy: many NAPA and Carquest stores are franchise operations so independantly owned. The rep in your area has been able to work with those locations. The NAPA stores in my area are owned by a local oil distributor and won't carry Schaeffer.

I just looked at there 9000 oil (5w-40)..TBN is okay, HTHS is higher them some (not in favor); TBN is lower them some others (not in facor), NOACK is higher the others (like adding oil?).
Per their tech data: Supreme 9000 5W-40 is a Group III product with somewhere between 20 and 25% PAO and the same additive package.
It looks like a good oil but buying them is a pain; worse then amsoil. I still use there 131 fuel add (love it) but you need to buy by the case and pay a special fee for UPS. If you buy buy the gallon, it is very high. For free shipping, you need to spend like $250 or $300...rrrrright.....
It really depends on what the end users is looking for. Since info like that is always lacking in this forum. What do people want? High ZDDP, low pour, low Noack, high TBN retention, long drains, cleaning properties etc? Or are they going on buying on price only or buying at walfart?
Heck, I can use Rotella 5w-40 and LC20 and better UOA's then any diesel out there! So, since you sell it, do you have any UOA on it? OR VOA?
Jsut saying, from a fellow TX, I have seen many oil topics on here since 2002.

SW03: Thank you for checking out the web sight. Yes...Some competitor oil will have higher numbers in some catagories. To address the ones you pointed out. TRC, for example, uses special additives to increase the TBN. TBN is a number some people look to as the be-all, end-all, so TRC "stacks the deck" in their favor for that percentage of people. I'm not saying TBN is not an important number, I'm saying you have to take the whole package not just a specific number.
You mention NOACK with an indication you believe our number means you will burn a lot of oil. I've heard hundreds of stories from other reps, my current client base and other Schaeffer clients at trade shows how much their consumption dropped after switching to Schaeffers. Some of those went from adding a gallon in 6000 miles to adding a quart in 20,000 miles after switching. As far as I can tell there is no explanation why 1 client will have that kind of result and someone else won't.
As for the HTHS: Have to return to, it's the total package that accounts for Schaeffer's success. You will find 1 or 2 oils that have a higher viscosity index also. Somehow, when you put it in the engine, Schaeffer will produce the numbers for longer periods of time that make it more cost effective to use. Someone with a higher degree, making more money than me could get into the science of it all, but I'm not a chemist.
I've read the Technical Data on Supreme 9000 dozens of times. It is PAO synthetic, however I am unable to find 20%-25% number you mention. Also, if you would please, clarify what you mean by "same additive package". Same as what? The synthetic blend Supreme 7000 has the same additive package and runs 20%-25% PAO synthetic with a hydro-cracked high VI petroleum stock. Perhaps thats what you mean?
It is more difficult than going to the Wal Mart to buy. I feel your pain on that one. The minimum required for free shipping is $350. That sucks for me, I have two autos. I have to get my family together and buy for everybody to take advantage of the wholesale pricing and free s/h. Typically takes 6 cases of quarts if oil is the only thing your buying. If you can get 5 cases of quarts and a case of additive then your there. Looking at a discount in excess of 30% including the free shipping. Its like buying at Sam's Club or Costco without having to buy a memnership.
I'm glad you like the Neutra. But, I'm wondering why the Neutra and not the Diesel Treat 2000. Are you using it in both gas and diesel? The Diesel Treat would be a much more cost effective long term solution unless you are using it in gas also. Just to throw out some options, I don't know how you get the Neutra. I can get you 10% off if you're buying on line. If you're Central Texas, I can come up with ideas for wholesale pricing.
I can fax UOA reports to you or even mail a copy of what I carry. I'm happy to do that. I've seen Schaeffer UOA reports on these forums before. They are always what I come to expect. I have to reiterate, it's the total package that should be evaluated. The Micron Moly and Penetro friction package is a giant piece of the Schaeffer puzzle. Delvac 1 is a fine oil, but it is usually very expensive unless purchased in large quantities.
John Morgan, you have brought up some good points; especially the one about picking a lubricant based solely on one specification. You have to look at the entire package, and pick the product that best fits your needs. Delvac 1 is an excellent choice for anyone that requires excellent cold weather performance along with OEM or API approvals, and/or looooooong drain intervals. The few folks I know that get their money out of Delvac 1 also use some sort of centrifuge oil cleaner to control soot. Naturally it doesn't pay to have $30 per gallon oil in the sump if it is quickly contaminated with soot.
I'm glad you pointed out that there are multiple companies offering good products. I have used quite a few different products, and it seems like each company has one or two "flagship products". I have used a few drums of Schaeffer's 9000 5w40 in a variety of heavy equipment, the 7000 15w40, racing oil, fuel treatment, grease, Citrol, etc. Most of the products performed very well, and I have nothing but great things to say about the service I received from the salesman. Going back to your comment about "the entire package", after I experimented with some products from TRC, I ended up switching the farm over to their products. I didn't switch because I was unhappy with Schaeffer's products, I switched because the TRC product line fit our needs better. Everyone has different needs & preferences, and I'm sure that's why so many different lubricant companies are able to survive. I currently work for TRC, but I try to remain open-minded about the various products available. Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want to discuss anything beyond Delvac 1, I'd hate to drift this thread any farther.

I have used motor oil that was quite a few years old----however, the major oil companies try to convince you to not use the stuff after about 4 years. I got that advise from Mobil Oils tech center not long ago, I think Chevron says something similar.

I meant new old stock, not used engine oil going stale?. I have some old QS,Havoline, Mobile,oil still in steel cans? We have several persons in the shop that take our used Cat engine oil{about 40 hours} and filter it for their own reuse. I don't reuse engine oil.I am now only using synthetic engine oils, Mobil 1, Mobile Delvac,O'reilley, and one rare oil Slick50 synthetic?Slick 50 for my lawnmowers.

Not synthetic, just regular Delvac 15W40 at Walmart and Rural King. Sorry for the confusion.

Just a guess, but perhaps Chris is talking about the Mobil Delvac 1300 Super, as that can be had at $10.00 per gallon on sale at various outlets.
