FWJ - IMO you come off in both of these threads as a snotty know-it-all college kid who thinks he knows everything there is to know & just can't keep from adding an insult, or 2, or 3, in every response to somebody who doesn't agree with you 100%. Why is it so wrong for layman like Don, me & others to continue questioning things? The issue may be clear & settled in your mind, but it's not in mine, even if you provide the perfect research paper saying it is. We're modifying nature - That concerns me. If you can refrain from all your insults & smart-@ss comments maybe this thread will survive a little while. Of course, maybe you don't want it to.

Other than that, these have been interesting threads to read!

It concerns me also, that's why I started this thread.

So flippin what? I'm a Univ of Kentucky horticulturist. That in no way makes my opinion that of University of Kentucky School of Agriculture. You REALLY REALLY do need to do some homework before you expect to play with the big boys....

Well in a way it does. You keep stating you are taking classes there so all your professional knowledge base is learned from the school you attend. Seems you spend more time in insults 101 then in forage class. I have been following your posts and have looked for the scientific fact that you say is there but have seen none. Though I have not looked into it how much grant money does uk receive from companies such as Monsanto and other big agri business. Seems to me it would be a great way to help you along in their process of why their chemicals are the best and seeds are the best. I would hope we would be able to get positive information from you but again it's dribble and boring. Please if you have the so called professional knowledge please share it with us or take a class in maturity or debate

Same here. It doesn't set well with me to modify nature and to me is seems we will pay for it later in one way or another.

Just remember that without the Monsanto's in the agri world there would have been hundreds of millions of people starve to death throughout the world.

Good, if the environment can't support it there should be any organisms living there.

All we do is create a life support setup when in reality they should be dead. Look at how many wild animals die every day from disease and starvation.

Once we have cured cancer and fixed our economy, among other problems, then we can worry about others. Again no skin off my back if someone chooses to live in a place that doesn't support life. We are animals, use your instincts to survive.

One issue I have wondered about...since Roundup Ready Corn will cross pollinate with another farmer's corn down the road, would not Monsanto be liable for the cross pollination and messing up the other farmers corn? For example, maybe the corn grown down the road by another farmer is a genetically pure strain used for seed corn, (and not RR), and was cross pollinated by the RR corn up the road. Monsanto has rules about replanting their RR corn, I know. But this goes beyond that...and affects another farmer's seed business which needs to be pure.

Opinions?

Valid point, but our world doesn't revolve around validity any longer. The oligarchs are in control...

I doubt that anyone can actually prove global warnimg, however it sure is hot. Just because something hasnt been proven doesnt mean it isnt so. I point this out because i see a correlation between this argument and the other.

A friend of mine had an organic oyster company on tide flats that had been invaded by exotic grass. That grass was imported accidentally by the larger oyster companies with oyster seed they had bought from Japan. The companies, the state, and the feds, pushed to have the grass sprayed with an aquatic version of glyphosate. He fought against it for years but the spraying went on. It took him out of the business. He and his friends not only proved that the grass could be managed by cutting, but that it had value for paper making. Too much bother for the Machine to be concerned. Now they spray the grass and have also gone to war against the ghost shrimp with carbaryl. There is no longer any such thing as an organic oyster in Willapa Bay, otherwise, the cleanest estuary on the west coast of the US.

On edit, the oyster growers there have determined to end carbaryl use by 2012. It must have come back and bit 'em.
