Another happy 3 point splitter owner. We only do about 4 cords a year all at once in about a day's work. Indoor storage space is at a premium and that was a consideration as well - a 3 point splitter takes up very little room.

you got that right...mine stands upright. I only split maybe 2-3 cords a year, as my house is super well insulated, and doesnt take much heating. Now if i had to split 20 cords, id go for an engine operated unit no doubt.

Well soon I will go to see a 3pt splitter at the place of sales. My wood is done but he told me that if I wanted to I could bring it home split some wood and if I didnt like it I could bring it back,I thought that was pretty nice of him. I would try it out but I have my Hoe on now and that has got me to thinking that at this time of year I usually do have the hoe on and I would have to take it off to use the splitter. Somthing to ponder I guess.
I also have contacted the people at Timber Wolf splitters and wood processors they will be sending me a price list soon as well. I can see the pros and cons of a 3pt vs Gasoline powered unit .Like I said I am part owner of a 27 ton gas job now. And at time's I think is is pretty slow,but you would have to know me I guess. I am always in a hurry so much to do so little time I guess. So if I feel it is slow is it really?.... or am I just in too much of a hurry.I will time the gas job for 1 full stroke and if possible we will mount his and I can time it as well. I only split about 3 or 4 cords per year and $1,600 for a gas job is a lot of money, vs $1,000 or so for a 3pt.

Go to a TSC. Their 22 Ton huskee models are frequently on sale for $999

Have a Wallenstein WX310 3PT splitter, and honestly do not see myself owning a self powered unit, unless I had no way of getting a tractor to where I am splitting the wood, wich may not ever be the case.
And I love the exercise of carrying the wood to the splitter, or rolling it on to it.
If I were selling the wood, I would buy a wood processor, diesel powered at that.

small spliter-- just using up some parts around the shop so making a small one 3inch tie rod cylinder 18 stroke 2 stage 11 gpm pump and a 8 hp briggs any idea how much push I will get? I have a big one used for maybe 35 years 6 inch cylinder 26 gal 2 stage 16 hp kohler splits everything.just killing time.

Most of my wood thus far is unsplit because all I've got is a maul...

Well, it is the exact same splitter as our 27T, only difference is ours has a 4.5" cylinder and the 22T is a 4" cylinder. Our 27T has split EVERYTHING we have asked of it. Including some pretty nasty and green elm.
And either way, The 22T model with its 4" cylinder is goint to me more powerful than a 3PH with a 4" cylinder because your tractors hydraulics will only make 2200-2400PSI vs the 3000-3500psi of the stand-alone.
So, that said, I think you will be hard pressed to find anything that will stop the 22T splitter. :thumbsup:
