All of us here at our farm in Oregon continue to be impressed with your results to this point.

We are working hard at completing the prep work for a new hazlenut orchard that we will be planting in March, so we are making a push here as well to have all the land leveling, spraying and covercrop planted prior the the arrival of our winter rains.

Keep up the good work on your horse barn. Will try to put together group of pictures on what is involved in establishing a hazlenut orchard here in our area.

Keep the project going and the pictures coming.

I am glad I started this thread. I made this thread in hopes that it may help others who are wanting a barn to get some guidance to what it takes to get good results. I also am very pleased that people are getting some enjoyment out of our project.

I am looking forward to your pictures and knowledge when you get around to starting a thread on the Hazelnut Orchard. That should be a pretty interesting topic North West Farmer.

Got the second coat of primer on the outside of the back stall Dutch Doors today. Didn't get a lot done on it other than that. We had some friends come by for half the day and then after they left I got the doors finished with the primer. They are now ready for painting. I am going to go back out tonight and build some more on the inner Tack Room walls. As soon as that's done we will be getting that painted as well.Then it comes time to take my tractor and do the cleanup work and moving the dirt & rock piles left over from the construction of the barn. It's getting down now to where all that's left is painting the rest of it. But that's a good thing, we are winding down to having the whole thing done!

The painting on all this will take some time but as soon as we get finished up I will get more pics posted. :thumbsup:

Part 10, Here are the back stall Dutch Doors after applying primer and two of them have the red paint finished on them with three coats. I have two coats of primer on the doors plus the three coats of paint. Just finished these two doors.

I still have to do the white part on the painted doors and then do the other three doors. I wanted to get more done on them but we are having a windy day so I am going to go inside the barn and get a base coat of paint on one of the stalls.

I did get a lot of the inner walls built in the Tack Room. I will post pics of that later when I get it all done.

How many people do you have helping you with that project. It might be my age, but it seems like I can never get enough done any more. Your new barn project is coming along so rapidly it is fantastic, but the progress has been so fast, I keep hoping you have some additional folks helping out.

I keep relating to projects I have worked on this year and those that are completed and it seems like you are moving along with that really nice looking new barn at a considerably faster rate than I have been able to accomplish this year.

Didn't go back and see if you noted your age on your profile, but I sure hope you arn't getting all that stuff done and you are 69 like I am. That would make me feel happy for you, but kind of down in the mouth for me.

Nick, it's mostly me doing all this but my wife helps with painting on the stalls and inner Tack Room. I am plugging along on it every chance I get. These doors are a bit of a pain to paint but man do they look good when they are done.

I feel the same way you do about never getting enough done anymore. :laughing: Although I am getting this project done relatively fast there is still a lot of things to do on the Ranch. We raise Paint Horses Nick and we have 19 adult horses (2 stallions and 17 mares) and then we have 6 foals on the ground this year.

We just bought this place last year and there is a lot of work needing done but we needed the barn to make the place work for us. This place is very nice, the house was built in 1940 but has been restored and it really looks great. We have another older barn here and its in pretty good shape. Then we have a Bunk House , Shop , Office , Garage , Greenhouse, Shed by the New Barn , Old Hanger Building (we may tear it out later) and we even have a Out House. And then we have our 45 acre Hay field which needs to be redone before to long. We also have a nice pond on the place as well. It is 80 acres total.

I had been working on all these other buildings before we started the barn. All but the House, Greenhouse & Shed by the New Barn (just painted it) need new paint. That is going to be next year's project. I stay very busy but I do feel like I can never get ahead on it. But I realize now after 12 years ranching , I never will get everything I want done when I want it done! So I just keep on plugging away and it does get done, it just seems like it won't if you know what I mean. I am sure you do.

By the way, I am 51 years young :laughing: For my age I think I still do pretty good but believe me I do have some bad days sometimes. I think we all do though when we get past our prime. I just feel blessed that I can still do things, there are a lot of unfortunate folks out there that can't and wish they could.

Anyway, I am very pleased with our progress. I will keep pluggin' away at it til it's done. Will be posting more pics later. :thumbsup:

Part 11 - Well Guys, I got the rest of the Dutch Doors Painted with the 3 coats today and thought I would put some pics out there for all to see. Masking these doors up was pretty tedious and took a lot of time but the results were great! I still have to paint the white parts but that will be a lot easier than the red part. I can get it done with my edge brush without masking.

Also got the rest of the inner Tack Room built last night. More coming later.

Part 12, here are pics of the inner Tack Room walls. Some of it has a base coat of paint started on it. I finished building it all last night. Not much to look at yet but we will be getting the painting done in a beige color on it pretty soon and then it will look really good ! After painting we will add the trim and baseboards and it will be a done deal.

I am going to paint the white parts on the Dutch Doors and install the 70 amp sub panel to the hanger building tomorrow so we can get the new lights installed and get the automatic horse waterer hooked back up there . After that is done all the electrical will be completed. We will be down to painting the 3 stalls and the Tack Room and we will be about done with this project.

A good paint job and proper color matching definitely makes the project great or average. That final focus on the paint job really makes your work stand out. Things are still right on the mark and looking good.
