3-Point Hitch 3 point hitch log splitter on a 2520

Do you attach the splitter Hooked up to a quick hitch, like the match?

I have the I-Match and it works fine. Some moving to get it it set by myself but I have made a dolly to scoot it into position and get it on. The thing I said I don't want to duck when it is splitting was referring to cycle times ect. ect. This thing splits both directions and you do not need the cylinder to retract in 2 seconds to split the next piece, it will split on the way back.

I just ordered a new John Deere 2520. I am considering getting a 3 point hitch log splitter also. What would be the best one for this machine given the hydraulic flow is a total of 10.5. 5.5 for steering and 5 for implements. I'm not sure I can use a 20 ton and am concerned the 16 ton will not be powerful enough. Any help or first hand experience would be appreciated..

I have a 20 ton on my 1528 MF with a Princes pump on the pto and I get 24 gpm with this I can add on hydraulics as I need them down the road I run my tractor on idle for a whole week on about 7 to 8 gallons of fuel the pump was around 5 hundred dollars but I have already got my money back on fuel savings. I added longer hoses and quick couplers to my pump and ICANN ask for a better setup and my splitter is made in to a stand alone with a 1000 lb winch on the back for big stuff people bring me they can split for more info myemail is CRThomas@gmx.com later

Have you considered the pto driven splitters? I have never used one but it seems all of the guess work is gone. Hook up pto shaft........... the gpm and psi is all self contained in the splitter.

Which pump do you actually have? At idle, you can't be getting 24 GPM. Your tractor only has 24.5 HP at the PTO.

This is one of the largest pumps that Prince makes.

Those PTO pumps cost about $550, pressure 2250 psi plus the cost of the rest of the log splitter system. They are fast, but do not develop as much force as a 3000 psi single stage hyd pump.

You also have to have the HP to run the pump.

The difference is about 5 tons of force.

Ok J J. I have a 2520 JD, 2 years old. I have 2418 PSI and a 10.5 gpm. I am only going to get about 14 tons out of a splitter, no matter if its a 20 ton unit. Right? This was supposed to be a question.......I am trying :confused2::confused2::confused2:

The splitter described above was a non pto splitter example. It was explained to be used as a 3 pt splitter using the tractors hydraulics :cloud9:

I have a 1529 MF with a princes pump I run it on idle and it is faster than 2 people can keep up with on a 20 Ramsplitter splitter. I opened the engine wide open by accident and it broke a steel fitting. I had to take the filter off the return line it blew it off. Later
