5 GAL Canisters

I have a series of 5 gal plastic canisters. Unfortunately the sprouts are leaking and some of the black caps that hold the sprouts are broken at the top where they secure the sprouts.

I refuse to buy a replacement sprout and cap for $8.00+S&H when I can buy the whole canister on sale at Tractorsupply for $9.99.

Do you have any links, tips, comments or ideas to cap off the canister? I do not need the sprout but need a tight cap for transport.

Right now I am using the old trick from my granddad showed me using plastic bag secured with the semi-broken black nut. I need something more 21st century....not to please the EPA but to make sure I transport this safely.

I have so far refused to buy/use the EPA friendly gas cans because of the spout designs. My old cans have replacement spouts mae of bent EMT welded to a flat washer using the original plastic cap nut. I close the tubes with a rubber crutch tip. MikeD74t

I'd love to meet the people who mandated this garbage in a dark ally....Might have to find a way to get the old stle from another country or something.

The new ones are 10x more dangerous than the old ones IMHO..Gas spills everwhere plus they hold vapor pressure..I have cans that swelled up like watermellons even indoors..That can't be good.

This summer we had the 5 gal ones on sale for $5.99 and a month later $7.99. Like them for topping off the Kubota L3130 as the fuel door is on top of the hood. Otherwise for filling a vehicle they suck!!

I like them (1 gal size) for filling lawnmower or chainsaw etc. Anything with a quart sized tank they work well. 5 gallons sized ones suck big time the flow is so slow my arms are quivering from strain of holding up that much weight before it is empty. Thats why I bought my 105 gallon fuel tank with electric pump.

That's why I have 4 of these in 5 gal, and 1, 1 gallon for bar and chain oil. I like them a lot, and they take a lot of abuse. They vent out when it gets warm, and do not swell up like the plastic ones. Only problem is keeping the funnel clean, I usually just put a rag over the top loosely.
