Most common new tractor in North America?

Hi, I have a 1966 Ford 5000, and a 1970 MF 1080, and I recently got a 2005 Kubota MX5000. From reading many threads on TBN and other sites, it seems that Kubota is the most common new tractor being sold in North America.

My local Massey dealer is also a Kubota dealer, which is one of the reasons I bought one. There are Kubota dealerships popping up everywhwere. I hope this is a long term trend, and that it says something about quality, longevity, and the availability of parts well into the future...

It would be great if I could keep this Kubota running for 50 years or more, like the Ford 8N/9N, Massey 135, Farmall Cub, etc.

Of course, I'll be 96... I hope they still let me drive my tractor by that age. Like the old fella's driving their lawn tractors around town 'cause they lost their license. That always makes me smile...

I wonder if there is some production facts along these lines. I am not sure Kubota is the most popular new tractor brand in America or even North America. Anyone have access to sales numbers in America of tractors.

Howdy Troy, Welcome to TBN, and yep I think the 'botas are here to stay, they are the most popular tractor in my area. I am on my second one. I don't know about operating a tractor at 96, but it is nice to think about

The consensus was that objective comparative numbers were hard to find. A quick Google search today showed nothing useful- except that link to TBN:thumbsup:

Just was reading a piece that stated CUT sales have fallen every year since 2005, and todays sales are 60% of what they were in 2005. Sales in 2010 were down another 19% from 2009. While no particular sales numbers were reported by brand it did mention the raise of LS in the market over the last 2 years by name. My bet is that if you had the numbers you would find that Kubota is loosing market share and has been for many years. I think would you find that there is no one big winner in the last five years in sales numbers, they are all flat and there are allot more plays in the market. I think Kubota's obvious quality of the past is no longer obvious.

I was looking for some numbers of Kioti's sold but couldn't find much. I'm sure Kubota still is in the lead, but of the new CUT's in my neighborhood, none of them are Kubotas, but we have closer MF, LS, and Kioti dealers.

If you google how Kubota's are assembled in the US and watch a few youtubes you will find the 1980's. A big box of parts from Japan and a bunch of guys with hand tools opening boxes and starting an assembly line for the days orders. While in the new MF factory where the 1600's are made by Iseki in Japan you will find a new modern assembly line with robots building tractors and very few humans involved. The same is true with the new LS factory in S. Korea where all the new models are being assembled now. All these new models were designed on cad computers from ground up and while not well known or popular eclipse Kubota in design and quality. Im afraid Kubota is where Sony was 10 years ago riding on their sales and models of the 80' and 90's while Samsung kicks their a##. I sure hope Kubota has something planned for the future because they are going to loose more market share to S. Korea if they just sit and do nothing.

I see more new John Deeres in my area than anything else by a wide margin. On my road we have one NH and three Kubotas with everything else being John Deere; don't know about the rest of the country.

No one seems to be buying Korean tractors yet, but the cars are selling well, my brother bought a Kia a few months ago and loves it.

Not a chance.

Maybe in the sub cut market but overall sales it's JD hands sown. and total units sold, again JD and by a wide margin.

I could be wrong but I believe it would be JD, then Ford NH, then Kubota, the IH.

This site might represent 1/10th of the total owners out there.

They do (Kia) have one fantastic warranty. I just can't bring myself to buy one, or even look at one. Something decidedly un American about Kia in my opinion.....

JD is a very wide line company whereas Kubota isn't. Kubota's thrust up until 4 years ago was the less than 70 horsepower class, with my venerable M9 being their big powered tractor at 82 PTO. I think the starter motor on my friend's Case Magnum makes 82 horsepower...........:laughing:

It's just been recently that Kubota has made it's entrance into the mid power arena but they are light years away (and maybe never) from the big power ag tractors that JD, IH, Ford, Cat and Case sell everyday and that's where the profit is.
