why one should ALWAYS carry your weapon

I now know only what shows in the news . Last I saw was 4 days ago, no suspects in custody.

yeah, I'm sure they are all over this case, dead prostitute dumped on a ranch, maybe killed in another county. Perp long gone.

That case will be solved when someone calls up and tells them who did it.
Sad but true, the only ones that care about that girl are her family.

But then we have to hear about Gabby Giffords every night on the news, I'm sorry if this strikes a nerve, but I'm sick of hearing about her, especially when there are so many victims of violent crime that hardly get a line in the paper. Again I'm sorry if that opinion offends anyone.

If I were OP I would take an interest to make sure they don't let this just slip thru the cracks. If it's not solved quickly, it will linger for a long time. Sounds like they know who she was hanging out with, so they probably have some leads. They're just not gonna allocate alot of resources to it.

.Texas Rangers have been called in.
I you know who they are, you know they are more than local LEO's.
We have his card and he actually replied to an email we sent him.
I hope he catches the perp.
Nobody deserves to be murdered or die so young .

to "5030"--Just want to say thanks for you post. I read your thoughts with great interest, regarding this subject, the history involved with guns and their place in several Countries. I enjoyed the read and appreciate the effort put forth to explain your points. Further, I would like to say to one and all that I feel so lucky to be an American, with all the rights and privileges that it affords and that so many have shed life to protect. Where else could we be a part of such a forum and to do what we're doing right now? Enough said I think, Thanks again............lg

No problem. I'm at an age (over 60 but not deceased yet) where I've already lived the majority of my lifespan so I make a concerted effort to make each and every day I have left the best day of my life and treat others accordingly.

Being older really hit home when a friend told me to take a tape measure and pull it out to 100 inches and lock it. Then, put your finger on your age. Look up to 100 inches and keep in mind you'll probably never make it that far and then look back to the other end. Look at the space between your age and the beginning and all the time you wasted getting to where you are......

Gives you a whole different perspective on life.:)

Good grief, I've been a member of this forum since Febuary 2003........

Here in Michigan (upper and lower) that's referred to as 'Brandishing' and it's a felony plus it's immediate and permanent loss of your concealed carry, among other things like spending time at the local constabulary, the one with bars on the windows......

If anything, when I'm carrying, I'm even more acutely aware of whats transpiring around me and looking for avenues of escape without confrontation.

Always keep in mind that if you draw your firearm in self defense, chances are you will be arrested and likely prosecuted and tried in a court of law for your actions. As a responsible firearm owner, hunter and target shooter,(myself) using deadly force in any situation is absolutely the last resort because of the consequences.

In this state (yours and mine) it's a requirement of the NRA approved training class (4 hours classroom and 4 range at the minimum)

It's all basically common sense, not that a lot of people exhibit common sense today. I have no problem with the requirements of a concealed carry in this state. It eliminates the undersirable portion of society from obtaining one.

To hold a concealed carry in this state is like making the Honor Roll in school. Only the best and the most law biding citizens qualify. People who respect not only their fellow man but hold the Constitution in high regard.

I never carry just to carry. I carry when the situation or gepgraphy requires it, for my personal well being and my loved ones. I fully well know what that firearm will do and the consequences of me using it for protection.

So no, I don't agree with the OP's thread line od always carrying your weapon. There is a time and place to carry and a time and place not to. It's all about discretion and common sense.

My fantasy?
About 20 acres in rural Vermont, snowing outside, drinking a good scotch while smoking a quality cigar in front of a riproaring fireplace...and Marg Helgenberger wearing nothing but a fluffy robe...that's my fantasy.
I know Marg isn't the youngest chick about...but she does something for me.

I would replace Marg with Cindy Crawford.

I do not believe in gun control which is on the way out

I appreciate your concern, and I'm not being sarcastic, but I don't think we are so much in fear for our own lives. If others are like me, they don't want to be helpless in a situation where an innocent third party is in imminent danger of great bodily harm at the hands of another. I don't want to see anyone get hurt, I fear that more than my own safety.
For myself I rarely ever feel threatened, true I don't wish to be assaulted either, but it's more likely that someone else is going to be the easier target, and they will be the one in need of armed intervention.

Well all that and plus we like guns :D

True...most people do have enough respect for others...the firearm is for those few who don't.

By your post, I think you have the impression that it's the Old West with folks walking around with a big ol' sixgun on their hip...that's not so.
If you walked down the street past me, you'd just see a mild mannered middle-aged guy...most likely wearing jeans or khaki trousers with a mid weight jacket (this time of year). You'd have no idea I'd have a 9mm pistol, a .380 pistol or a .38 snubby revolver on me (normally 2 of the handguns listed).
Same kind of guy you'd see walking down a street in Ottawa or Calgary...

British Justice:

Funny story

British Justice: Shoot Criminals in Your Own Home and Go to Jail for Murder | LearnAboutGuns.com*

"When a pair of burglars broke in while he was home, Martin opened fire with a pump action shotgun."

"He was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison, although the conviction was later reduced to manslaughter with a 5 year sentence."

"The surviving criminal, who had over 30 criminal convictions, then sued Tony Martin for the injury he suffered during the burglary."

"The parole board refused to grant Tony Martin an early release because he "has shown no remorse and would continue to pose a danger to any other burglars.
"

Of course, UK folks are generally weird because, Spotted Dick, really? :licking:

When enough criminals govern for long enough, isn't that what one would expect ? I thought that is why people braved crossing the Atlantic to come to the new world in the first place ? They just have a few hundred years on DC is all...

The law (as in police / cops) in this country is re-active, meaning they come when called, which usually means after something happened.

They are not standing by each one of us to protect us at the time we need it.

they are not there to stop the rapist, the mugger or murder ....they will only be there to investigate (probably poorly at that) the incident.

so, if defending myself makes you think you need to feel sorry for me....don't waste your time worrying about me.

I will not worry about you and if the need arose, and you are next to me and are being assaulted or raped or about to be killed, I will make sure I walk away and let you wait for the police or fate to intervene

I feel sorry for you people who's gov't will not afford them the opportunity to defend their life if need be.

I'm sure there is plenty of crime in Canada also. With that in mind remember this, when seconds count the police are just minutes away........ luckily my 9mm is a millisecond away, what about yours?

I wonder what would happen if every head of household was required by law to have a gun?

Oh, wait,....it has already happened.

Southern U.S. town proud of its mandatory gun law | Reuters

"When the law was passed in 1982 there was a substantial drop in crime ... and we have maintained a really low crime rate since then," said police Lt. Craig Graydon. "We are sure it is one of the lowest (crime) towns in the metro area.

Part of the problem is that America has open borders that allow ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to enter our country to commit heinous crimes, mostly against women and young girls.
I recently visited south Miami Fl, and I was shocked by the crime stats committed by illegal foreigners from south America.
Until we get a good border fence and ship all the criminals back, we will continue to see this problem expand. However under the current leadership there is no chance.
Remember this... A liberal, is really a conservative, that hasn't been mugged yet.:D

Hey "Young man", I know of what you speak. Come the 18th of next month, Ole Giles will be 72 yrs old and feel every year. As a Trooper, I've been shot, cut, beat on and still made it this far. Have no complaints or regrets, I asked for it and facts be known and given the chance, I'd try it one more time man cause I don't feel like it was a waste. I just thank Lord and keep on trucking.

In any case, age not withstanding, your points are well taken, I'm still in a learning mode and I appreciate the input............lg
