any rumors of Ms. requiring CDL for duallies?

Not all one tons are duallies. And not all duallies are towing trailers.

And not all Duallies are 1 tons. A enviromental firm around us has a fleet of Dually Ford Rangers with utility beds on them. Pulled one from the ditch a few years ago. Very strange.

He was taking water samples and got it off in the soft stuff.

Is that a no on that link?

My guess is yes. It seems to me he has his facts wrong. Yes, a dually can get you in that catagory just due to the new super high GVWR's they are coming out with but to say all Duallies is not going to cut it.

Belive what you want but till I see some writing I will stay put.

Now I could see where some insurance companies only cover duallies under commercial policies but that is a different subject.

Apparently the CHP looks at the rig first and then the weights. Some of the guys in my tractor club have 1-ton duallies and pull gooseneck equipment trailers to haul sizeable tractors (e.g. Farmall H) to our events (parades, picnics, static displays). Several fellas have been pulled over and questioned--apparently the CHP is cracking down on folks using these type rigs for commercial purposes without the proper weight tags and a CDL. You essentially have to convince the officer that you're not hauling commercial and have the necessary ID to show you're in the tractor club and are going to a club event or returning home from one of these. Guys with SRW 3/4 and 1T pickups and bumper pull trailers hauling parade tractors aren't pulled over and questioned by the LEOs.

I could also see the state requiring that duallies have commercial plates, but I would be very surprised if they passed a law requiring you to have a CDL to drive a dual wheeled vehicle.

I see a lot of vehicles, trucks with trailers that weigh more than the truck is rated for. I see all the time people driving a trailer that are absolutely useless when it comes to backing up.
Whether you need a CDL or what ever it is called in your area. If you are going to be pulling a trailer or even hauling a load you had better be sure you are legal, especially if you are traveling.
If you get into an accident or go to a state and they are looking for extra money, they may interpret a law differently than you do. Also if you get into an accident, your insurance company will deny your claim if you are not legal.
All it takes is a phone call, or send a few "E" mails, to know you are legal. That and a weight scale printout.

What I don't understand is why people get so excited about CDL laws and interpretations. I would bet the laws for most every state are listed under the DMV website for that state, and most are similar. IDK, maybe reading comprehension is being lost these days....

On a similar note, I don't know why people, LEO's included, worry about minor things like pulling a 10K trailer with a 1-ton truck when there are many people out there doing blatantly wrong things and not getting caught. On my way home on the interstate I was passed by a hot shot hauler with a srw 3/4 ton truck and about a 30' long 14K gooseneck. He was hauling a Case 580K backhoe and passed me doing about 80mph! How do people like this get away with this stuff? :confused2:

The Federal CDL rules read that any combination that has a total GVW of over 26,000 lbs requires a CDL. If you are under 26,000 you do not need one for personal use.

Because of the GVW wars between the manufacturers, all new duallys are at least 12,500 lbs GVW. Most light duty goosenecks and heavy duty bumper pull trailers have a 14,000 GVW. So you are 26,500+ with a dually and most trailers. It is pretty easy pickins for any DOT officer to pull over a new dually with a trailer.

My 2005 Chevy Dually has a GVW of 11,500. I can pull any 14,000 lb trailer legally without a CDL.

It is also easy pickins to pull over anyone with a tandem dual gooseneck (20,000 lbs GVW) or a triple axle gooseneck (21,000 lbs trailer). Empty or loaded, you would be required to have a CDL to pull those trailers, even with a 1/2 or 3/4 ton truck because you are over 26,000 total.

In some states you dont need a CDL if its over 26K and for your own use.
