I also purchased a used RZT 54 (2010) with 49 hours and the Kawasaki engine. I have around 79 hours on it now and have a broken deck height spring. Anyone have to replace one of these springs yet? Is this going to be a pain?
I have also noticed that when backing up, one side is much stronger and makes it difficult to keep the mower in a straight line. Will belt tension cause this, or am I one of the lucky ones that have Hydro problems? Also, which tranny do I have? The sticker on the tranny just states "Hydro Gear ZH MNBC 3BDC 4RRX". Any thoughts - Thanks!

With the deck off the spring is easy to replace.
The transmission is a ZT-2800.
You may just need to clean and adjust the stering linkage to correct the reversing problem.

The only trouble I have going backwards appears to be traction related. One side slips more easily than the other. However, if I ease backwards gently, the problem seems cured. Look the wheels next the you reverse to see if your problem is the same. Does the 54" model have the cutoff feature when the PTO is engaged and both arms are full reverse?

Yes, the 54 "had" the PTO cut off. I've tried pulling both levers: slowly, quickly, and one before the other but it still didn't matter. It's not the tires spinning either. Thanks for the reply though.

Yep. When I received mine (in crate form), the thing wouldn't go straight when both handles were all the way forward. That was with the handle adjustments (from above) to be all the way out front. There is a double nut "stop" on each side of mine that can be adjusted from above. However, even with the "stop" adjusted all the way down, mine still wouldn't go straight. I had to get underneath and adjust at the heim joints. No big deal really.
Are you annoyed at all with your deck cutting out when you are in reverse? If so, let me know...I "fixed" mine...

Annoyed and a little concerned that the PTO would quit working before long. I crawled underneath and made a few "adjustments" to take care of this.
What's the deal with replacement blades?
I go on Fleabay while at work figuring I'll just order some blades so they show up for the weekend & I can throw them on.
Not so easy!
I see that there are no less than three different center hole patterns.
Needless to say, I don't have the manual or the part number to cross reference while at work.
& while I'm on the subject of blades,
Would it be better to get the "gator" blades or stick with the originals?
I have about 2-3 acres, no mulching.
