Geeez Bird, See that is exactly the kind of thing I am talking about...How in the world can we let companies like Google compromise National Security and violate our privacy as well...Yep, that is a good example - Thanks and I will bet the Russians, Chinese and Iranians are laughing at us....

Bird, Since you brought up Google maps...I have a question...Do you not get concerned that the areal view offered by Google maps along with the street view makes it awful easy for criminals and terrorists to case their targets....that troubles me...What do you think ?

Most of those maps are so out of date they still show Grass on my place. :D

Not the one's for our place...but as other posters have pointed out ..I left irritated about Google but our own county has a current areal view on the internet of all properties in the country so it is not just Google...I am just venting...I am missing the good ole days where what we had in our backyard , be it a swimming pool or pond or what have you was our business and private...No more...those days are gone in so many ways...:(

Google Earth and similar services are part of modern life. The CIA and Defense Dept certainly know that fact and work accordingly. The Russians and Chinese have their own satellites as do other countries. Any terrorist with big plans is going to get access to satellite imagery anyways.

You could make the same claims that cell phones, computers, air travel, guns etc etc make life easier for terrorists or our enemies. Yes they do but they are an integral part of modern life and also make it easier for us to combat those same forces. There is no going backwards.

Dennis, OK that's all fine...but what about my Lake that I care so much about ? I have never had a tenant or anyone else suspect I had a lake and wander onto our property..but Google earth just makes it too easy..and is an evasion of my privacy and right to quiet enjoyment of the property...Google needs to be throttled or they will get too powerful and be co-opted by the govt. if it has not already happened..

I cant say as I disagree with you, over all I do, as far as personal privacy goes. I also agree with AZl,, not much we can realistically do.

On the other hand, as a contractor, Bing maps (I prefer Bing over Google maps), I am able to get a pretty close overview of a job site (as it was when the photo was taken)
and usually saves me a trip.

Now that incident just burns my taxpayer behind, no fail safe? auto destruct? It will be sold to the highest bidder, either Russia or China and probably with our own subsidy $$

If you can't look at somebody's property close enough using google earth then swing over to google street and you can view them from a street view perspective. Now that's invasive.

No more invasive than driving or walking by.

Go into GoogleMaps, get creative with your editing, submit for processing.
