I have never shot a Judge and never will, but a lot of people like them. Gun Tests evaluated them on more than one occasion and does not consider them to be a "manstopper" beyond ten feet with the .410 as the pattern opens so quickly. They rated it good for close in pest control. S&W now makes a similar gun.

Over penetration should always be a consideration, but so should under penetration.

The best ad I've seen for the Judge was of a guy using it during a carjacking. The .410 might not be much, but I reckon a face full of shot at 5 or 6 feet would persuade a carjacker...
Also, mixing .410 rounds with .45 Colt...that would be OK too.

I don't have a Judge...got a couple Model 85 snubbies and a Model 327 Tracker (7 round .357 Magnum revolver...very nice gun!!). The Judge just doesn't appeal to me.

small world.. I have a t85 snubby. fun gun.

ont he judge, you can get some .410 'handgun' rounds that are 3 flat dis style projectiles, plus some #4 shot I think.

but i agree. some #8 int he face of an atacker should render him unable to attack you, unless he has radar or sonar or can find you by smell.... eyes don't like ratshot...

I'm not saying anything against them, people just need to know the limitations or strengths of any weapon they choose.

Like you, I just don't care for them and additionally I believe people will tend to think they don't need to be as accurate or that the effective range is greater than it is.

My car and bedside guns are identical G23's with Surefire weapon lights/red dot combinations filled with 180 grain Law Enforcement Hydra Shoks that I have spent a lot of time training with from contact to 25 yards in rapid and aimed fire, so for me they are a better choice than anything else. Now my carry gun is a "compromise" .38 snub gun. I used them before transitioning to the semi-auto.

I accept that what I like or works best for me won't for someone else.

10-4 on that.

I like weird stuff nobody else normally does.

I guess an auto mag ain't good home defense eh? :)

Don't you have to cut down 30-06 cases, do a neck size, bell, chamfer ect for those? I knew someone 25 years ago that had one. Never shot it, but he talked about reloading.

I have kicked myself for years for not buying one of those. A friend of mine was a gunsmith and owned a gun store. He was able to get a couple and I dinked around too long and never had the money or opportunity again. I saw a Wildey .45 Magnum when they came out too; same story.

I had a Desert Eagle in .44 Mag for a while, but man that thing was heavy and bulky; my son has it now.

I did buy a S&W .44 Mountain Gun that I really liked, but my old bones won't handle the recoil of the big guns anymore, so I just kept four, a 629 Classic, 29 and two Super Blackhawks; I take them out and look at them every once inn a while.

I had one for some time till UPS lost it in shipment...

Me and a buddy used to shoot the steel targets at 100M at a local range. Not competition, just for fun. Shot off hand though, un-supported. I was hitting pigs 8 of 8 shots, same for turkeys. Chickens were more challenging, usually 6 of 8.

Was fun, as folks could shoot lower power rifle, 30-30 ect, at them. Guys would be missing with a rifle from a bench; we were standing right next to them, hitting the steel target with a 6" barrel pistol...

Still kick myself; paid a bill with the insurance instead of replacing it...

Liked 240gr JHP over a load of H110...

44mag with a 240gr jhp or sp is a surprising accurate round... A buddy had a S&W 629 with the 8" barrel; shot that at the steel targets too.

Magna-Port.....

And, different loads... I found I liked loading with 2400 powder, but it had a snappier kick that H110 or 296...

Magna-Ported, with H110 was nice... :D And the price to port was really not bad.

sounds like my .416 rigby.

darn spendy things...

The .338 Lapua started out as a wildcat 416 Rigby. Lapua with Scenar bullets are around 120 bucks for 20 on a good day. PPU's are about half that price with 230 FMJBT's.

Been shooting PPU's. Found one bad primer already, something that don't ever happen with Lapua's rounds.

Glad I found the primer at the range and not with a 10 point in the cross hairs. That would have been a pi**er.

The .338 pounds my shoulder hard enough, I can't imagine a .416....:)
