In-line small square balers

The big square & round bale crowd do not worry about those concerns, don't think it would be any different for the small square crowd. After years. Of old square balers, would love to get back into it again, just so i could try an inline out.

Do you have a problem with hay catching here and there on drivelines, fanbelt (crankshaft), etc. on the tractor when straddling heavy windrows?

How about looking for possible bale problems... looking directly behind you with the structure of the baler blocking a view of the bale as it ejects - is that a PITA?

Appreciate the info from experienced owner/operators.

I have had zero problms with any driveline wrap. The driveline is above the hitch, so I don't think it could ba an issue. The tractor I bale with has 30" tires on it so it sits a bit lower, I have had hay build up on the pin clip. ( when I was too lazy to put the poper bolt & nut in). I've been going to hang a mudflap under the tractor to help the windrow slide under. Been gonna do it for 6 years, haven't yet. Hasn't happened enough to get me angry.

Bale problems? What are those? Not with a Hesston.

Seriously though, Straight back or 3/4s of the way turned around, what's the difference? I relize at 30 I may be nimble enough it doesn't bother me. I've seen guys mount a mirror so they don't have to turn around.

The old guys I know with em don't look back anway. They don't know they're out of string till they come around again.

What are you using as a baler tractor Fred??

Massey 5435. It's a big step up from the 165 we used before.

The tractors with 34" wheels or 38's seem to clear windrows very easy. Next tractor's gonna have 38's for sure.

Do you do custom baling??

Less now. we used to do a bunch (30,000 at peak time) of small squares. More dry round bales & wrapped now. Less work and rounds are starting to become more popular.

More people are doing there own, everyone seemed to think we were making a ton of money doing it.

As our beef cow operation became a hobby, the day job pays for nicer equipment. Nicer equipment makes me wanna go back farming. The math just doesn't pan out.

It is nice to look at 750 small squares as an easy day, myself & the wife would do that before dinner.

Nice... So you can hobby farm, have nicer equipment, and enjoy it.

Have not baled in years, was just for us (Dad, Mom and me/sister.), and our few horses, occasional beefer. Had out beloved MFFE35, and an old Oliver baler. Cant remember the model, but it worked well.

Someday, I plan on buying some land up North, and trying my had at it again.

Have you had any issues with the 5435?? 2wd or MFWD?? Cab??

Every timeI am at our dealer, I love looking at those 5400 series, real nice tractor, and a little more than a bare bones machine. Could see myself having one some day. Do some snow removal with it too. :)

The 5600 was released at AgriTechnica, eh??

Up North? How far do you want to go? They won't bale snow!

The 5435 has been great. The dash fogged up on it early, replaced under warranty, that was it. I guess about 900 hours in it now. MFWD, open station. It was just a hay tractor so no cab. Next one's gonna have a cab though. Going to put a loader on this one this winter.

I was at AgriTechnica, I saw the new 7600 series. I must have passed right by if there was a 5600 there. I know the 5445 is getting replaced by the 5450. That's a nice looking machine. I think thats the next one. Visio roof, cab suspension, big wide radials. Just need to convince the wife that's what we REALLY need.

There were too many people in the MF/Agco section to walk around anyway. Amazing the difference in popularity.

I bought a CIH 8530 an auction this spring. I've had some teething problems with it. Mostly on getting a used thrower to work on a used baler. But when it works its awesome. Running over windrows really isn't a problem. And my baling tractor is a MF265 hi crop with 38 rubber. The baler will turn on a dime and road transport is much easier than an offset.

I figure North of The Soo (Sault Saint Marie,ON(will be good enough for me.

I saw some pics online of the 5600 series, but it may of not been released yet.

I built a 5400 series last night, and when I clicked the 5445, it gave me the 5450, but that is ok. Same spec as you listed, with the widest Metric Michelins or Trelleborg, a front 3PT hitch/PTO. I will be happy! Oh, and the Red ALO loader too. :)

How did you book Agritechnica?? Did you buy the tickets online for the show?? MMay go next time.
