I can mount my chains in about 5 minutes per side. Position the chains behind the wheel and use a rope or bungee cord to connect the ends through the wheel. Drive forward slowly, checking to be sure the chains are riding up the tire. Stop as the front of the chain is just about to touch the ground.

I learned of this method here and have used it for 5 winters. Sure saves my back!

Here's a link to a video showing this method.

I have very heavy studded chains on my rear wheels. I have found the easiest way is to tie a 2 foot or so piece of strong nylon cord onto one end of the chain so it forms a loop across the end. Then you lift the end of the chain up onto the back of the tire and loop the cord over the tread. The tread holds it on. The chain is stretched out behind the tractor with the outside surface facing up. Then you slowly drive forward stopping a few times to check the chain alignment on the tire. The chain stays on even as it passes under the tire. Once it starts to climb back up the bottom back side you stop and make the connections.

Works like a charm every time.

Again, here's a link for a video showing this method:

Ok, looking at the video i see where i made my mistake. I didnt keep stopping and reposition my chains when i tried this method. When i tried it the mess of chains just ended up piled up on the axle and was a mess to remove and reposition.

I may... or may not ... try this method next time. For my size chains jacking the tire up worked pretty easy, but i may just try this way again to try.. if you know what i mean.

I will tell ya these don't work well in a manure pile.

Try running these without the tensioners and see if traction improves. I have 4 link on my ag tires with no tensioners and the chain is the first thing that makes ground contact.

I have R-4 tires on my BX 24 which I used to think was the "happy medium" between Ag and turf. I am new to this tractor (12 hours) and so far have had no traction problems (In 4WD) in soft lawn, gravel driveway, mud and light snow operating in mild to moderate grade angles. BUT... this is with my backhoe and FEL attached and I am thinking the extra weight is helping. (?) I have not purchased any chains yet but I am thinking it might not be a bad idea to have a set on hand. Recommendations for R-4 tires? Two or four link? Front and rear or just rear? I know some of the previous posts went over these issues but I didnt come away with a clear understanding. Thanks.

I suggest you give the folks at www.tirechains.com a call. They're in Johnstown, so not too far from you. They don't have a storefront, so no facilities for customer visits or pickups.
They can explain how much clearance you need and give you the best suggests for your circumstances.

I have turfs and 4 link chains (rear only). My drive is pretty level and hardpacked gravel. I suggest you use rear chains only (at first) and see how that works for you.

I had Double ring chains on my 165 MF; but I never had front wheel asist before.I liked the double ring chains for gravel drive.
I sold them with the tractor as they were size 38. The Koiti has 14.9 x 28.
I am thinking of trying it when , If we get snow and then decide if I need them. Thanks for your reply.

I have R4 tires on my 6284 Cub. Ags would not be an option for me since I mow with the tractor in the summer over relatively soft ground that Ags tear up. I actually was impressed with how good my traction was with the R4's in deep snow when pulling trailers full of wood on my paths and in the woods - on dry snow that is. When I tried working in wet snow traction went to **** since it would pack and keep the tires from contacting the ground beneath. As soon as the R4's spin even the slightest bit in wet snow they make ice in the packed tracks and you aren't going anywhere after that. I installed 4 link chains front and rear and I haven't found a situation they won't go through including wet snow, mud, ice, etc. The 4 link chains do ride very rough but for the limited use I put them through the extra cost of the 2 link chains wasn't justified.

BTW - Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you tractor guys! Have a prosperous and safe one!

Ouch, I read that for a 4x4 tractor the chains have to be matched very carefully. Anyone hopefully will comment on this??

well i contacted Kioti directly before i ordered my chains. They said that the warranty and the manufacturer have NO PROBLEMS with chaining up both axles in the 4x4 mode. The axles are plenty strong enuf to work the chains.

I do know that when i plowed the snow (all of 3 times this season ) when the chains wernt installed on the front axle, the plow would force the front of the tractor to the side while operating. With the chains installed on the front, there is no slipping at all no mater what angle i put the plow in.,

i have 2 link chains on both front and rear
