Awful Experience at Best Buy

I staple the receipt to a piece of A4 paper, write on what it was for and the date, hole punch it and file it in my receipts for expensive items file:)

I staple the receipts to the warranty/users guide that comes with most items. That way it goes in the file cabinet where I keep all those things and if it dies I know where to start looking for the info.

As for items that I have never used, well, I don't get too much that I return. I only have a few items bought for me as gifts each year and for the most part their not items easy to mess up to warrant returning. I am careful to not buy something unless I am positive I need it in which case the receipt is with the manual in the file cabinet.

I don't blame the stores for protecting themselves. I was in Wal-Mart looking for Legos on sale today. My daughter has been wanting Legos for 5 months and Santa brought her a set to see if she actually will play with them, well she loves them so we were on a hunt for some more. Anyway as we were there I showed her a package some one had ripped open and stole an item out of it. Between items stolen and never returned, items stolen to be returned for cash/credit and other scams people try to pull they have to do something to protect themselves and a receipt is an easy and honest way. I personally think a store that gives credit to someone who doesn't have a receipt is actually being generous as theres no proof exactly what you paid (if you got it on sale, had a coupon....) People find all sorts of ways to take advantage of the return and sales policies stores have.

My daughter is 7 and she sees first hand how rude and disrespectful people can be. She helps me pick up all the trash that people throw out their windows and that our neighbors so kindly let blow all over to our property. She knows we have had items stolen from us and understands how hard we work to buy the things we have and to keep our place somewhat nice. It is a shame so many people don't respect other people or business, if they did we wouldn't have these discussions though.

Exactly, avoid the box stores.

Im sure people scam, but this hurts honest people.

I don't like Best Buy anyway. But.....

Best Buy is completely within their rights and you are completely within yours. If you don't like it you can just never go back and also tell everyone just like you did here.

I'd like to see all stores tighten up on their return policy. Too many people buy stuff and take it back, for whatever reason, good or bad. Too many.

I hardly ever return anything. I shop carefully and if I'm not sure I want it I don't buy it. If I get something that's f'd up that's different but it's still buyer beware as far as I'm concerned. All that returned stuff costs money that the retailer has to pass on to me.

If retailers didn't take back stuff so easily maybe people would shop more carefully, prices would come down and manufacturers would build better products. Wishful thinking I know.

Slightly off topic, but I have also started to photocopy all receipts that I need to keep for a long time, I.e for warranty etc, as I have noticed that the ink on a lot of my newer receipts has been fading away to nothing in a short period of time. I think it must have something to do with making them biodegradable ...Craig

You are too generous... I think fading receipts are part of the many a company's business plan.

Last year a bought an item from Petco that came with a one year warranty...

About 11 months after the sale the time stopped working.

I took it back to the store and they couldn't read their own receipt... it had faded so bad.

The store manager came over and told me I need to make a photocopy of all receipts to avoid future problems...

Seems the old blue ink register receipts from 30 years ago didn't have this problem...

Its the new way the thermal printers work. It may be a hidden agenda thing .. but more likely its just an issue with the printers. I know that the thermal printers are much faster than ink printers, thats how the printer at H Depot can spit out a 2' long receipt in 2 seconds.

gone are the days of actual ink printers running one line at a time i fear.

They have an app called lemon for smart phones. As soon as you buy something, you snap a picture of it with your phone.
It stores all your receipts for you, and you can even go back and print them out.

Good tip for the if and when I join the ranks of smart phone users...

I live in area where cell phones don't work... It is an anomaly being on the fringes of the city limits...

I don't haev any real problems with a no reciept no refund policy. I don't shop at Best Buy for other reasons.

What I really don't like is a store with a no receipt policy that won't address an exchange for a failed item that is the stores house brand item. Thinking HF in this instance. This seem to be the new policy as of about mid-yr. Was a cheap item bought on sale for about $5 and didn't keep the receipt.

What was the item ?, can't be the only store that carries it.

Take it to another store that does take receipt-less returns.

I wish the cashiers could look at the items when they come in and make sure it is all there. My wife got an educational game for our daughter and when she opened it today, she found that someone had opened the package, removed the 4 games that came in the package and returned it.
Really annoying to now have to find the receipt and bring it back.

Which is dishonest and borderline if not outright theft.
