on my temp fencing I think I used 6-8 x 8 and no crete ,i DID use H or angle braces. In real sandy soil where the posts want to lift under hi-ten wire tension, I will drive in 2 tpost at rear angle of post and use #10 brace wire and make a holding loop, adding a staple to the post.

all can be pulled / dug out easy.. is solid.. and no crete.

good luck

soundguy

Where do you get 8x8's? What do they cost? Even 6x6's cost me an arm & a leg.

most of the farm stores here have them, including our lowes stores.

mind you this is rural-ish area and horse country.. so our stores stock some things that some bigger city stores don't.

for instance. walmart stores down here stock all kinds of tractor oils and what not. .. byt he 5g pail even. I know some stores in some larger cities with no rural areas that don't even carry gallon jugs of tractor oil or gear oil.. only quarts.. etc..
I don't recall the cost.. but wasn't astronomical... not muc more than the 6's

a lil heavy though... :)

I just bought eight 6x6's for $72.65 each :(

Of course they were 20' long :)

(pole barn)

(I was asking, though, regarding fencing - would've loved to use something bigger than the little 4x4's I used, but everything costs so much, especially when you're fencing 3,400')

Here are a few more showing more of the progress. I was attempting to capture the entire "temporary pasture" and show the electric fence lines also.

More to come as I make progress!

Be well!

David

Daivd, we have five horses on our 5 acres and the first grounding rod was placed directly under the charger. If you are not getting good power to your fence, then add another rod (10') down the fence line. Don't know what the exact name is but, you can have your 600' runs of rope or wire and have a wire run between the two and have both of them hot. I know they sell this little wire with two clips at Tractor and Agri supply. If you have never been to the store in Petersburg (Wagner Road) you need to take a trip on a crappy weather day. Nice to spend a few hours walking thru the isles. One final thing. Training with the horses should begin with double checking your gates (all childern have a tough time, even some adults) to make sure they are closed. Nothing worse than having your horses get out. It can be a pain getting them back in.

Good luck, horses are a lot of work, but well worth it.

HERE WE GO!!!!!
It is official! The horses arrive this Sunday at 2pm. My lovely wife and daughters are throwing a "Horse-Warming" reception for all those who helped build, their families, and all of our clan (the East coast ones at least).
I'm not really done yet, but this will light a fire under my fanny. Not really that much to do. I did have a little bit of frost heaving today as we really got the very first real cold spell. Pretty much only the posts we did not tamp down as well, or the few we put in where the dirt was totally mud and untampable.
Oh man!
This is a dream that started with my daughters at a very early age, well before we even had pet a pony, and it has infected the entire family and we are all VERY EXCITED!
Thank you all of you awesome TBN folks who have been teaching me, guiding me, and some even showing up and setting posts in with me! TBN is WAY MORE than a web forum, chat room, etc... You guys are family and I love all of you.
God Bless & THANK YOU!
I promise pictures afterwards.
Be well,
David
