One more question Tom. What top link is that and do you recall the length of the hoses? Also, what type of quick connects are on these tractors?

pclausen,

My top link hoses are -6 (3/8) X 24 and 30 inch long, with a 90 degree elbow on one end.

When I was measuring I got to thinking about how well the oil collection set-up for the couplers works. Again, I hate leaks, so I added one of the collection caps to my power beyond coupler too!
I don't recall you guys mentioning this option, but believe me it's worth the few bucks it costs.

Regards,

Tom

Interesting loader. Never saw one with so many pins. I see they had to use hoses at the bend where the bucket cylinder top ends attach.

I'd like to see pictures 1/2 raised and at full lift!

Is there something under the sheet metal piece on the center torqure tube to the left (tractor's left) of the third function quick disconnects?

Here it is at full height; 173 inches to the bottom of the bucket.

There's a pic half raised on or around page 10.

Mine has two relief valves for the self levelling in there, but Frey also uses that spot for the optional electric diverter and loader suspension valves they offer.

Regards,

Tom

I'd get the 92.

Tom

Caledon Hills,

Thanks for the boxblade size recommendation. I think I will go for the 92" Gannon Industrial 4x4 hyd. boxblade. My tractor will be about 84" wide after tire swap, so the boxblade will hang out on both sides about 4". If anyone else has any additional thoughts about this choice, I'm pulling the trigger tomorrow.

Also, regarding implements, I'm getting a new chain tooth harrow. I have been using my neighbors for too long, and it's pretty flimsy. I am planning on a 5/8" by 9' wide. I have also thought about going for a 11' wide one, but I like the idea of storing the 9' in the barn a little better.

Thanks,

Island Farmer

I really appreciate this suggestion. I had already asked my dealer about it, and he had responded that he didn't think it had much value. He said that not much oil would be lost anyway. The thing is, I am a kind of meticulous fellow, so, like you, I think I'll go with the oil collection system.

pclauson,

I was wondering what you are thinking about the tires. Last week my dealer didn't get me all the information I requested about the tires. I am wishing that he'll get back to me tomorrow with more. So far he said that no one he has worked with has used the Mulitbibs, so he doesn't have any experience with them.

Withought regard for peoples actual experience with the tires, or their cost, here are my three combo choices.

First: Front -- Mulitbib 440/65R24 / Rear -- MultiBib 540/65R34

Second: Front -- Agribib 13.6R24 / Rear -- Agribib 420/85R34

Third: Front -- Agribib 14.9R24 / Agribib 18.4R34

I have not seen the Mulitbibs on a tractor, so I am just using the specs and my imagination.

The second combo I like because it, like the Multibibs, does not appreciably elevate the whole tractor.

The third choice looks really great on Caledon Hills tractor, but it does elevate the tractor about 4". From the specs, the Multibibs would provide even more flotation/footprint than this choice, without raising the overall machine.

The thing is, I haven't seen pricing. If the Multibibs are going to be more than a set of Agribibs or Firestones 14.9R24 / 18.4R34, I think I would accept the 4" of additional height.

Anyone have any additional info or ideas?

Thanks,

Island Farmer

Thanks Tom. Really appreciate it. I'll probably go ahead and get the oil collection set-up. Looks like a nice feature and it doesn't add much cost. $100 I think.

Island, my dealer is still trying to get some additional info as well. Will pass along anything I get. My main reservation with the 420/85R34 factory option is that those are pretty skinny rears compared to the other options. Hopefully the multibibs won't be a huge price increase over the agribibs.

My thoughts exactly. I believe that we'd lose over an inch of width in the rear, compared to the OEM Dyna Torque 18.4R30 radial. Like you, I'm wishing that the Multibib option does not cost an arm and a leg, and that there isn't some other reason not to go for them. I have read a few things on the internet suggesting that their sidewalls may be "relatively" fragile. I would like to believe that it's relative to some very, very hardy other tire.

Like I said before, my fall back is to go with what Caledon has, of course I haven't gotten the price difference on those yet either. At least they can be had as Firestones, which the dealer says are definitely less expensive than the Michelins.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to call some tire places myself to get some pricing. I always like to due some diligence before committing myself to substantial outlays.

I'll let you know whatever I learn as well.

Thanks,

Island Farmer

Island Farmer;

Have you finalized your "purchase package" with your dealer? Besides the optional, and more optional tires - what other implements, attachments have you decided on?

Thanks,

I talked to my dealer today and got some more info. He said that, if it were him, he'd be more comfortable going with the 14.9R24 / 18.4R34 combo that Caledon has. He said that the Multibibs could be just great, but he didn't have any experience with his customers using them, whereas the 14.9R24 / 18.4R34 combo is a stock size for the 6 series. The dealer said that it would cost me about $4000 difference to make the swap, but I am confident that I could get it done for substantially less, either by buying my own wheels and tires, or having the dealer come around. I still have some leverage because of the additional implements I am about to buy.

Caledon Hills, if you are reading this, any more thoughts on your tires? After using them on your 5085M, if you were pclausen or me, would you consider the Multibibs to lower your overall machine height 4"? Also, could you tell us exactly what Firstone tires you have? I believe Firestone makes several different styles with your tread pattern.

I called a tire shop out in the midwest today and got some pricing

width Diam. Circ. Flat Plat.
Agribib 14.9R24 16.1 49.6 147 212.4 $1196
Multibib 440/65R24 17.3 46.7 138.5 196.7 $1177

MultiBib 540/65R34 20.9 62 183.3 316.8 $2102
Agribib 18.4R34 18.8 65.4 194.2 315.1 $1502

These prices do not include shipping. I am sorry that this info isn't easier to read. I don't have the time right now to make a separate spreadsheet. I think you will be able to decipher the info. After the tire size, width, diameter, circumference, flat plate and price.

One last thing, my intention has been to fill my rears with Rimguard, but as I have read more about these radials, it seems that filling them with fluid is not recommended, instead they recommend wheel and 3pt. weight. The radials lose some of the flexibility that you are paying for, and you will not have as large a footprint, or as comfortable a ride.
