A machinist told me that you can use water, he said all you are wanting to do is cool the drill bit. Myself I have used WD40, but that gets expensive.

My machines (lathes and mill) use water-soluable oil.......95% water, 5% oil......
the oil is just used to prevent the machines from rusting when idle.....
it will work totally fine if it was just 100% water.......keeping the drill cool constantly is the key......ya just can't cool it when it looks hot to you, you need to "Flood" it with water......just trickle it on the drill bit
I've used a garden hose with drill press outside to drill out 1.25" holes.....let the mess dry up afterwards or catch it in buckets
