I have my doubts any wear in that gear box is caused by Yanmar not building the trans right in the first place like not getting the clearances right thats absurd.

My guess is like I said some hack had been into it is it a VN by chance?

edit: In my professional opinion the start of this problem (long before 8ball got it) was contaminated lube or the lack of it causing a cascade effect on all related parts. Bearings being the #1 thing to create an out of alignment situation simple as that it could be abuse but most likely lube related and subsequently improperly repaired.

Forks and slider pads machined into gears dont wear just because there is .020" too much clearance as long as there is lube.

Cardoc, I can't see your face so I don't know if I upset you with my post about the fork clearance. If I did, I apologize. I only posted the clearance so 8ball could check it if he wants too. Didn't mean to be questioning anything you said. I have come to have a high opinion of your opinions.

You need to drain that Hydraulic??? oil out,and inspect the lower gear cluster and bearings.

Oh no winston not at all darn it thats the problem with the as I refer to it 1 dimensional internet so I agree with not seeing my face thats it in a nut shell cant see the body language etc so no problem dont give it a second thought my friend! :)

I knew exactly what you said was facts intended for 8ball and I was more in the teaching a student or employee mode for 8ball than anything so I apologize I get that way too often and go off the deep end in my explanations.
:confused2:

Actually now I look back I was more commenting on where Mr. doppelganger was headed with the help he was offering not that it was in any way not correct but taking the "common" problem thing maybe a little to literally. In 30 years of rebuilding all sorts of gear boxs I never see a wear pattern like 8balls that wasn't caused by an out of alignment situation and a lack of lube and that is never ever because the tranys are not machined properly.

quote"that is comon on forks in a large number of gear boxes. It just shows the machineing was not perfect."

In my humble (hopefully spelled correctly) opinion. :)

I'm going to put in my 2 cents. But I just can't see blaming Just the VN's for poor quality. Like They say Opinions Are Like !!!holes everybody has one. I have one also as to were the poor VN Quality Started in the first place. But not going there Again. When I started looking for a small compact there are two local Yanmar Dealers close to me I looked at. They were the absolute Worst in Quality,Parts and Workmanship and Price. And niether are VN's. Thank goodness I drove all the way to the other side of ATL. to Spalding And bought one from him. He's UTDA Fredricks supplied refurbs but I passed and bought one from him as is. It's been over 3yrs since I bought it and I've only put Maybe 300$ in parts in it. Rebuilt starter a Seal or two And Throttle parts including Maint. filters Etc. And the only thing that doesn't work correctly on it is the Blinkers:laughing: He was up front with me about it but wouldn't admit to were it come from which was understandable. My bet it was a trade in VN'er. I was so pleased I had another tractor Purchased from him that was a refurb. It wasn't for me and dealing with him over the Yrs. His word was "As Good As Gold" and to the day I have not heard the first complaint about it. And of course Steve Knows Who it was for :p So basicly I have been involved first hand with both and it boils down to The Excellent Yanmar Qaulity Tractor  Not were it was improted from. Again Just IMO. I seen that also Barry but Of course IMO that wouldn't prevent it from going into all gears.

I didn't get time to put it together and check for looseness, in the middle of getting several home improve projects done. I asked hoye for their opinion and sent them pics. They said possibly the shift lever guide may be faulty.

I know that fluid is nasty. Plan on draining, changing and cleaning out that screen over the winter.

[QUOTE Also Were the bottom of the "Shift Lever" or the Shaft Looks Awful Shiney "alot of Wear" And thats what Sits in the "Shift lever Guide". That would Create alot of Play not letting the "Shaft" move the "Shifter fork" far enough to Engage the Gears or lock in the Detent.[/QUOTE]

There two with about the same opinion on the problem. Being from Hoye I think thier's would be as as good as it gets without having it in hand ;) And on my other reply on the VN'er 8ball the refurb was for a retired Catholic Priest. He's
From Chicago  Yeap!
