Diesel oil, different from regular oil?

This is what my manual says for the HST.

Do not use a oil dual rated as CF. Do use an oil rated either CI-4 or CJ-4 10w-30 or higher.

For the HST you can use basicly any quality universal tractor fluid. I would avoid the cheap stuff and stick to the major manufaturers who all put out a quality product. My local Walmart carries Rotella universal tractor fluid Walmart.com: Rotella Tractor Fluid, 5 Gallon: Automotive

What you will find through some research is that what is referenced in the manual are products that meet a certain spec. Since the manufacturer does not have their own spec in this case you can choose a different manfacturers spec. I typically look for JD J20C. Always look for products with the most current spec listed on its products. For instance J303 is far out of data but still referenced on many fluids.

No offense but diesel ratings are made by people who don't care about bearings and lasting conditions. There made by manufactors who sell parts. Look at the longevity of poliomyelitis and lasting shear factors. Look at your oil for carbons and how long it's clear. Look at your wallet. Ratings are not science but a way to sell oil. :confused2:

According to my manual my 2011 DK40SE HST takes 15w40 SAE.

Most mfg specify a certain spec of oil (ie: Cx, x being another letter, rating being discussed), then they recommend a viscosity based the anticipated operating temperatures

FYI I was in NY state today and checked out the price on a couple brands of oil. They were half the cost of what we pay in Canada. Like wtf? Lol.

What brands??

The rotella synthetic t6 was $23 at Walmart. $45 here.
I also saw syntec oil. For low 20's. I use it in my 4 stroke engines so I know it's around $50 a gallon here.
