Wonder who disabled the clutch interlock?
Jim

No need to wonder, the owner put an aftermarket clutch in it and said it then became irregular working sometimes and not others.

I used to manage a service center. If we damaged something, we fixed it. If we disabled your vehicle, we provided a rental. If the repair we outside of our skills, we paid someone else. If it was a POS, we negotiated a settlement. No argument. Yes, sometimes it hurt.

I guess I'm not the only person that thinks a reasonable repair / settlement is in order. just a good way to do business.

I remember one lab I worked at. if we borrowed a piece of equipment from another department.. we sent it back in better condition if possible, than we borrowed it. IE.. cleaned, serviced, repaired.. etc.

I try to do that nowadays if I ever borrow something..e tc ( which i usually try to avoid anyway.. :) .. as if it's worth needing.. it's worth owning.. )

They don't have to lift a car as high as the mechanic just to change a tire. Gosh, wonder what would they to fix its radiator, turn it upside down???

Seems to me the owner of the truck will likely share some responsibility.

If you think starting a vehicle by reaching through the window is good practice as a business then go for it. Lube place picked up the whole bill including a commercial rental for the duration.

There is always the possibility that a vehicle with a manual transmission will come in for service that has a defective clutch safety switch or even never had one. I've heard that clutch safety switches were first introduced in North America about 1970 so if you had an older vehicle, there is no doubt in my mind that 99.99% or more of the workers nowadays would not realize that it has no clutch safety switch. Leaning in through the window to start an unknown vehicle and expecting it to not drive away is an act of faith, not due diligence.
