New Ford Superduty owners beware (diesels)

Then the dealers would be denying claims based on the use of aftermarket parts.

Not true, if it is Racor water sep fuel unit and installed ahead of the Regular fuel filters. In fact some dealers recommend them and install them...Racor will not pass water, thru impregnated paper elements.

What you have to remember Ford sells more diesel trucks than GM and Dodge combined by a good margin. Its purely a numbers thing.

Chris

I'm not a Ford fan and haven't owned one since I was a kid and drove what I could afford at the time, but...
If Ford had been able to use Cummins as their supplier I would probably be driving one now. Could you imagine what their sales would be with Cummins under the hood? The Cummins is really the only reason that I bought a Dodge. I've always been a GM driver and even like the Duramax but I work on all my own autos, tractors, etc. so I go with the best made and easiest to work on. A long proven design inline six with overbuilt internals compared to a V8 with gasoline engine sized internals and so much crap hanging on top that you can't see the actual engine. It was a simple choice for me.

I agree with the out selling part, but if you combine the chevy/gmc numbers I believe it is dead even or slightly in GMs favor. I really wish GM would pick one... However, I do not recall Dodge or GM having near the catastrophic engine issues Ford does. This is now the 3rd motor with issues (6.0, 6.4, 6.7) that can be life ending for the motor. My 6.0 was flawless, however. Just had no more need for it. Our local diesel mechanic, who works on over 100 trucks a month including commercial accounts such as Asplundh and Entergy, is constantly in the motors of the Fords, especially the 6.0 and 6.4. Granted, these trucks are worked hard, but isn't that what diesels are for?

This is true for total trucks, not diesels though. Ford sells about 80% of the superduty line with diesels. GM sells around 42% with diesels last I checked. Dodge was on par with Ford but only sold 1/6 th the trucks so the by numbers are skewed.

I was referring to total trucks. Not sure on diesels, but I would have to agree with you as I usually see more ford diesels than others. Dodge is the leader in my area, but my area is real small and very rural.

I'm a Dodge/Cummins fan but if Ford was able to get an inline 6 CAT, I think they would blown all the rest of the trucks away in sales period.

CAT no longer makes road-going engines, mainly due to being pissed with the EPA's flip-flopping requirements and regulations, from what I have read.

Yeah, it's too bad they got out of the on highway market. Even though I work for CATs main competitor, I still think they make a good engine :)

So to get a good engine, we have to buy a water pump or a generator and strip the motor out of it, build an adapter plate and bolt it to the tranny of whatever truck we want to drive? Guess that is the only way to get a CAT...

Or just buy a RAM or GM truck, both have very good diesel engines and transmissions. Personally, I think GM has the best overall package.

After 17 years of owning Cummins powered trucks I've never gotten more than a couple of drops of water out of the separator.

Checked my 07/ 6.7 yesterday for just the 2nd time maybe and not a single drop of H20. This thread had me worried about it, otherwise I wouldn't even of thought of it. Like I said it has been a non issue for me in all these years.

I do have a CEL code up, "P2580, Turbo charger speed sensor circuit low"

If any one knows what that is, let me know. The VGT turbo/ engine brake is not working as a result.

I swear these new trucks will throw a code if you fart near them :(

Thanks, JB
