New Ford Superduty owners beware (diesels)

Or just buy a RAM or GM truck, both have very good diesel engines and transmissions. Personally, I think GM has the best overall package.

I was thinking along the lines of CAT in tractor trailers, as they got out of that field...
The Cummins I drive everyday is no match for the CAT I am used to...

After 17 years of owning Cummins powered trucks I've never gotten more than a couple of drops of water out of the separator.

Checked my 07/ 6.7 yesterday for just the 2nd time maybe and not a single drop of H20. This thread had me worried about it, otherwise I wouldn't even of thought of it. Like I said it has been a non issue for me in all these years.
Thanks, JB

Interesting, Down here, I had to raise the hood and drain the racor unit every other week,2 table spoon full, when i was checking radiator. My old 6.2 leaked AFand oil a lot of the time. We have Racor units on all the heavy gear engines here. Plus new auto- bleeders on the air brake systems. Maybe the new diesel fuel is better about water, but we have a lot more moisture in the air , here in the south?..Sticky in the summer...

So to get a good engine, we have to buy a water pump or a generator and strip the motor out of it, build an adapter plate and bolt it to the tranny of whatever truck we want to drive? Guess that is the only way to get a CAT...

Just order a replacement industrial Cat engine with the correct rear housing!
The little 6.6L CR Cat will fit anywhere the Cummins will!.

What electronics will be needed? Ever grenade a DMAX, that would be an awesome option!!

This is why I posted in another thread about the need for better fuel/water separators and filtration mounted between the tank and engine. The 'water-in-fuel' lights on the new trucks seems to be pointless from what I am reading, because by the time you see the light, it's too late.

It's up to the owners to preemptively fix the problem because the manufacturers will leave it up to you to prove that you stopped running the truck immediately after the light. And, of course you can't, so they walk on warranty. I've been reading about too many of these exact scenarios.
Info should be stored in the computer.

I'm for now a Ford guy, but one things I have noticed going back to the early 2000's is they have had issues with diesels that I think are self inflicted. The other engines were build by Navistar, yet certain issues didn't happen, or happen as much in Navistar products. Maybe they were happening, but not as many engines out by Navistar?

Because Diesel engine parts (and Labor) are ridiculously expensive, to the point that many have switched back to gas, because if you get one problem like that, it's a no brainer. They have become cost prohibitive.

It seems like it's always Ford that comes up with these killer problems. may be unfair or just overly covered and discussed, but poor Ford. Their new offering that was gonna turn things around???

Why not answer his question? ... Engine or not?

The bad failure mode that Ford owners seem to experience destroys the engine, yes. :(

Thank you both.

Well, the engine comes with its own ECM, all you would need is a throttle input device such as a TPS, (which Cat also sells)
