I'll take quality over quantity ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!

Shows you how great that Hemi you love is if you look at my next post and how much faith the Bow Tie Boys have in the Dmax when you look at the percentages.

Again, it's all numbers which is all Ford has thanks to fleet sales and good marketing. Also Dodge doesn't even offer a gas in the 1-ton and I agree. If you need that much truck then you need a diesel. Even Fords V10 is no match for a diesel.
Watch those numbers drop as the Powerstroke diesel complaints pile up and GM wins another towing test.

Really! Only instead of blowing head gaskets they're losing the fuel pump and blowing up completely.
New Ford Superduty owners beware (diesels) - TractorByNet.com
ULSD by law has to meet certain lubricity standards. Now, as a loyal Ford guy and stockholder, do I wish Ford had locked up Cummins as its supplier 20 years ago?- Yes. do I wish Ford had spent their R & D dollars on a straight 6 vs. a V-8 Yes. Do I think that so Fords may have had an issue? Yes.

Do I think its an epidemic and .."they are blowing up allover the place". No-unless you believe ..."a guy whose cousin rents a basement apartment from a guy who cleans the toilets at the local Ford dealer-and HE"S SEEN EM!"

A little more checking shows that the diesel versus gas makeup of the 3 brands in the 3/4 ton and up trucks.

Ford: 66% diesel and 34% gas

GM: 43% diesel and 57% gas

Dodge: 79% diesel and 21% gas

A limited analysis, no?

Got ya. Yes, it has always been this way. I have been following the numbers since about 2003ish. I bought my first of 4 diesels in 1999 but there were no real magazines and Al Gore had not perfected the internet.:D

Its always been this way as long as I can remember. Ford has always been about 65/35. GM has always been about 40/60. Dodge has always been about 80/20.

Here are the total numbers:

Ford F-Series: 528,349

GM Sierra and Silverado: 499,929

Dodge Ram: 199,652

This is total trucks, 1/2 ton and up.

In the 1/2 ton segment GM is the leader.

Ford sold 249,245 F-150 series trucks.

GM sold 338,876 Sierra and Silverado 1500 series trucks.

Dodge sold 107,853 Ram 1500 series trucks.
___________________________________________________________________

Here are the 3/4 ton and up numbers below.

Ford 3/4 ton and up total sales were: 279,104 of which 193,822 were diesel and 85,282 were gas.

GM 3/4 ton and up total sales were: 161,053 of which 102,582 were diesel and 58,741 were gas.

Dodge 3/4 ton and up total sales were: 91,799 of which 75,867 were diesel and 15,932 were gas.

As you can see Ford out sold GM and Dodge combined in this 3/4 ton segment and up and out sold them in the diesel engine segment combined also. It was nearly 2 to 1 versus GM and nearly 3 to 1 versus Dodge so yes, while it may look like there are more issues its just a pure numbers situation.

numbers dont lie buddy. iam a ford guy and a dodge guy. i always have a mustang in my garage but always have a dodge truck. have a 2011 cummins ram because i never had a problem with cummins. was considering a new ford truck but they have had nothing but problems over the past few years. the company i work for has always bought ford but all there powerstrokes have had major problems over the past couple years. cummins can have problems too but not as much as the powerstroke buy international. When i heard that ford is now making their own engine i said forget about it. That motor has no history whatsoever. Ill stick to cummins. My family has always bought peterbilts with cummins engines when we were in the truckin bussiness so i stand behind the name.

There are any number of ways to interpret these numbers.

One might be, the International and Cummins engines have lended Ford and Dodge a reputation for reliable, serviceable diesels.

Another might be, Ford is better at marketing to fleet buyers who look more at long-term cost effectiveness than they do at "sticker price."

Or maybe GM gassers are so good that, every time a satisfied GM owner fires up truck, Ford cries out in agony, wishing it could figure out how to make a fine gasoline-powered engine such as those in millions of GM vehicles.

I'm just saying that those percentages, while certainly being factual, are not useful in the absence of context.
