Since I'm not stupid or a criminal, I would not be targeting the individual for unlawfull threats or retribution.

just wahtever relief is provided for by perhaps civil or crimila law..

equines are a bit of a dangerous animal.. especially an old one that doesn't see good.

no way I'm opening myself up tot heliability of somone else grooming him... and past that. this woman / person has not demonstrated any basic knowledge of animals needed to maintain a horse. she / they think he's starving??? he looks like a normal horse with 1 eye.

not thin.. not fat... if she can't tell what a normal animal looks like.. she has no business touching my animals...

I've read the thread and correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me somebody doesn't like you and they have decided to use this anumal cruelty issue to bring misfortune to you. Thier issues with you may or may not have anything to do with animals at all let alone the one eyed horse.
If you knew who it was.......

What could you do if you know?
Confront the person and threaten them with some sort of retribution?
Might work, but be ready for the next move. You don't live on the property so your vulnerable. This person may live nearby and has a distinct advantage.

If it's not this women, she probably has information you could use.
You need to talk to her. Find out what she is about. It may be best to catch her off guard and knock her door, tell her the neighbor saw her... yada yada yada. See what her reaction is.

It may be the horse, it may look pretty bad to someone unfamiliar with horses. If thats her problem, tell her what you told us. Maybe she wants to nurse the old horse, take care of him in his old age. That might work out OK for you, Give her access and let her brush, feed and whatever else you do for a horse.

As a concerned animal owner, I want my counties resources and officers used for REAL complaints. every time they have to come visit me for a bogus complaint, that's someone else's starving horse that is waiting another day to get food, as the officer couldn't make it out because they had to investigat ethe bogus claim about me.

Yes, the AC officer has my cell and I have her's.. and she does courtesy call me now.. but I still havn't gotten her to enter the porperty without me being there yet. I have told her to call for the horses so they will come to the fence. that was the 2nd time.. and she got pics from the fenceline.. etc.

hopefully the complaints will NOT continue.. if they do.. hopefully ( wishfull thinking ) the county will take steps to find the accuser.....

the one thing I am concerned about.. well, two things really are:

1, I have a ever growing file of cases. Even if all the cases are open, investigated and closed, picture this as a fictitional headline. " Local farmer investigated for animal cruelty charges 13 times"

of course, not mentioning that they were all bogus.. etc. headlines are what people read / hear / see.

2, as someone else pointed out.. animal control, as a member of code enforcemnt, .. well, there are tons of things they can investigate. If this person falsely accusing me really has it in for me, as opposed to a ignorant concerned animal person, then.. they could eventually call code enforcement on me enough that an officer could fins SOMETHING.. I mean.. I'm sure if you look everybodies farm over with a fine tooth comb and a spot light.. you might find something.

Hey.. there is a driop of oil under this tractor.. and it's 69.9 ' from a well.. or.. all those tractors.. not all of them have batteries.. are they derelict vehicles??

etc.. that's a side concern I have. IE.. investigated till they eventually justify it with SOMETHING. kinda like 'vauge / grey area' probable cause for getting pulled over. if they check the car over enough.. they will likely find something to cite you with if they really, really want to.. some tire wit a section th=with less than minimum tread.. or a bulge.. or SOMETHING..

Boy we sure do have a bunch of paranoid members or internet Rambo's on the site. A law enforcement agency was called about POSSIBLE animal abuse. It's their job it check it out and inform the owner they are doing so. I am surprised they had to have permission to enter the site, the game warden doesn't. Seems obvious to me that the officer, after checking three times realizes they have either another nut case calling, a horse ignorant concerned citizen or someone that doesn't like Soundguy. The officer exchanged phone numbers which seems to say the officer doesn't see any issue's, yet by law has to follow up on complaints. So give them permission to call first, go through the gate and check if there is nothing to hide. End of posted signs.

The suggestions coming in a are almost funny to me. Hire attorneys, freedom of information act, privacy fences on a horse pasture, multiple cameras, rewards for information, news stories, change the laws, confrontations with the accuser, fake burials, a government conspiracy to check the property. Come on, they have to check a complaint. With the current economy there are a lot of abused animals out there. A responsible animal owner, like Soundguy, would want them to follow up on reports. The LEO has the picture now or would not have exchanged phone numbers. I'll bet the problem is over and we will not have to set up land mines or pill boxes.

Then they saw it all shaggy in winter. Heaven forbid they saw it shedding and rolling in the pasture in the spring...

I have been by there a number of times; the horse looked like a healthy old horse to me, but I have been around horses and some livestock in the past too.

it'so warm here in florida, my horses are shedding too.. loosing the shag down to tight fur.. and they do like to roll.

the old man takes it easy.. and won't roll all the way over.. just hits it a lil on each side then gets back up. the 2 younger ones go all the way..

Good points made, but still no one has given an explanation that Soundguy can give his boss for why he is missing another 1/2 day of work, missed wages, etc. I don't know about you, but I have limited time off. My manager is very understanding in most cases, but repeated stuff like this would test his patience.

it's bad enough when regualr farm emergencies keep me out.

like for instance.. the time I went out and say the horse with the ruptured EYE!! and then had to call an emergency vet, then get him sedated and trailerd tot he hospital.

that was a call in day... then another half day to go piuck him up.

then there have been the multiple times that someone runs off the road and runs my fence down or thru my gate.. then leaves.. and don't even prop it up!! and then i get a call from a neighbor that my animals are walkign down the road!!!

now I have to put up with bogus complaints..

i know you guys probably think I'm setting on my hands not doing enough.. I'm just a bit in a fog to the entire situration.

It's perplexing being visited by law enforcement multiple times for taking GOOD care of your animals....

still getting over that... oh.. and working up 80 hrs a week...

That was my thought too. If he/she doesn't know enough about horses to see when one is healthy, I wouldn't want her on the property, ESPECIALLY unsupervised.

Not at all SG . I can't speak for everybody, but I'm taking you on your word. You posted this, apparently looking for help or suggestions and that's all I'm offering.
I don't know shinola about horses. I honestly don't know why anyone would own one, but that's another thread.
I do know a thing or two about bad neighbors and how to deal with them and I think this is more about the neighbors perception then it is about your means and methods of caring for your animals.
I have a feeling that you can change the perception of this person. I think that this may be a lot easier than the other methods of resolution mentioned here.
good luck with that.
I'm done here

You should really contact a lawyer. If she is maliciously calling them on you. A letter stating you are going to sue her, even in small claims court for lost wages or in civil court for defamation may due the trick.
If the officer in question and you have a good relationship now, I would tell her you think you know who it is and ask her to go visit the person. She could say something like "Mr Soundguy has had some complaints on the welfare of his animals and your vehicle was seen many times close to his residence. Have you seen anything suspicious." If she says yes it was me calling the officer could then assure her everything is fine and that should end it. If she says it was her and she keeps calling she is being malicious and see above about the lawyer.

Things like this are precisely why I don't have any neighbors. No nosy neighbors, no problems!
