Attaching PTO

I have a few of those collar style PTO couplings......and I hate them. I am going to try the "rope suspension" or bungee cord as suggested above next time I use 'em.

I think the collar style PTO coupler is the worst kind.....and the type you have to twist is especially hard to accomplish for us humans with only TWO hands! Supporting a shaft in an awkward position, while aligning a coupling and twisting a collar.....while pushing forward......arrrrrrrghhhhh.

You know, you could get one of these Pto Adapter 1-3/8 X6 Spline Male X 1-3/8X6 Spline Female Pto Adapter and swap it out between PTO drive shafts. That way, you'd have the push pin lock on all your PTO drive shafts.
Just make sure you can handle the extra 4" of overlap without bottoming out the drive shaft.

Foggy, I can't recall if you have a quick hitch or a Pat's Easy Change...but if you do, adding the adapter will just make up for the extra length of the PEC or QH.

I find it helpful to hookup implement and raise it so that PTO shaft is parallel to ground and at same height a tractor PTO shaft .

That does help as long as you can work around the raised implement.

Very true Roy . I forgot to add, be very careful to keep feet and hands out from under implement encase 3 pt drops for some reason . I 'm a small guy so I don 't have a problem workin' around implement I have. Other types of implements could give me a problem .

All good tips, it is just a pain, I hope I can get it on, after that, it may stay on a while!

If you do want to leave an implement rigged to the PTO, I strongly suggest you spray both the tractor's stub shaft and the implement's female fitting with fluid film to minimize any rusting problems.

Oh, it may stay on! :D I just took the batwing off the big tractor and it was harder getting it off than on! It's only been off twice in 2-1/2 years. Note to self: thorough clean and lube everything before trying to reassemble next spring

Probably the people who have it the easiest are the ones who have been putting the attachments on and off every day for 20 years!

Probably true...

I leave my RFM rigged most of the mowing season (comes off when I use the chipper...that's about it).
I'm a real believer in using some kind of barrier...Fluid Film seems to be the best I've found so far...

Another vote for fluid film, I love that stuff. They send you a little free can to get you hooked, and it works! They reeled me in:laughing:
