Internet buying vs. local

As others have said, beware of fleabay as they have so much bootleg stuff from china. I believe those pills are just that and would not give them to my pet.
Ebay does very little to stop the bogus flow of stuff from china, I have seen fake clothing, northface, and many more including carhart, and was almost burned on some software that anyone here would swear was real. I expected it to be fake and honestly thought it was real, right down to the "Green" packaging, silkscreened disc etc... it even updated from the manufaturer...for one year until the eula came back as bogus.fortuately for me I had the manufacturer check the serial number upon purchase, promtly recieved my money back after trying to be strong armed...and kept the software for the aggrivation. Pretty much done with ebay unless its a used item and even then I will have questions and concerns.

Been on a fixed income over 9 years now. And what you say about markups on medications is 100% correct. I have been taking Provigil since 1998...back then 180 tablets, a 90 day supply for me, cost about $500 with my insurance picking up 95% of the cost. The company that holds the patent for the drug has been steadily increasing the price for the last eight years, because when the patent expires, generics will be available. What cost $500 for 180 tablets back in 1998 now costs over $4200!! A year ago, the cost for 180 tablets was $3600. I don't understand why this kind of price gouging is permitted.

I am not buying meds for anybody, human or pet, on ebay. But I have a story about meds for you: 20 + years ago, I was prescribed Tagemet, for acid reflux. A year later, one of my dogs had the same problem. My script was over $200+. My dog's was $9. Same pills, same packaging. The vet told me that there was no market for dogs @200, but there was at $9.

In general, I'm doing a lot of buying over the Internet because I can't buy the stuff locally. Within reason, I prefer to buy locally and keep local businesses in operation but too often customer service, and what I need just doesn't exist locally.

As for pet meds, I was shocked at the vet's price for dog wormer for our two dogs. I came home and checked 1800Petmeds and they were $20 higher!

I do prefer to support our vet, they are available 24/7 for emergency calls, the only one like that in this area.

Yeah, I probably wouldn't buy meds off of eBay. If it's low prices, I would be concerned about it either being expired, or bogus.

We use the Sentinel heart worm pills and our vet gets $146 for a years supply. The same thing from 1800Pedmeds is $149.98, so naturally I'm glad to stay with our local vet.

This is why i pay with paypal, its ebay backed up to several thousand $$ if you buy a fake they will get your money back in a few weeks at most. Early ebay paypal was not an ebay company and you had almost no recourse if a seller misrepresents something. Ask me how i know, i have gone this route once i can think of.

Its true, there is no "dog/cat" medicine factory. The blood pressure pills for a 100lb dog are the same as those for a 100lb woman if they both prescribed the same dosages. All the meds are the same, it dont make sense to have 2 factories. Also vets can call a prescription into a pharmacy for your pet under the pets name. We have done it when out of town or they do it on highly expensive rare meds that they dont stock. So if you think your dogs regualar meds for an ailment are high, get the med name and call to Walmart or walgreens or where ever and ask by the active ingredient name of the drug how much for a say 60 pill rx of 50mg tablets would be or whatever is the dose. If cheaper have your vet call it in for you. They may not do this for you as they want to keep your business but then again they may??

The vet at my wifes office has joint or somekind of pills and mabe some heart or blood pills. He has a legit MD RX for them, and he buys through his DVM license through his supplier as they are way way less than going to a pharmacy for it.

Update...got my $9.99 tapeworm tablets from Ebay seller today. Still sealed in the plastic blister package, and all markings on both packaging AND the bottle inside the plastic blister package are EXACTLY the same as the $24.99 package sold under the same brand name sold at Petsmart. UPC and Lot number correspond properly, expiration date is also 3 years in the future.

If this product is a fake, it's the best d*** fake I have ever seen.

I am not suggesting one way or the other in regard to what you got. But the Far East is very good at copying packaging, that's why software vendors have gone to holographic labels and Microsoft has "genuine Microsoft" verfication built into their products.

So, how do I know the package at Petsmart isn't a copy either?

Its not a fake!! Remember i told you the meds are at LEAST marked up 100% Even a big box store will mark up over 100% cause they can still undercut the vet and make huge profits as they buy that stuff by the truckload full. Take the normal retail and cut it in half and your close to what they actually paid for it, so the price you paid is right on, your correct in thinking he only made a dollar or 2 on you at most.

Also remember the vaccines i told you about or the allergy injections they use. They buy a bottle for like $20 and get say 15 vaccines for a small dog out of them and chage like $30 a shot!!!

One of our cats has tapeworms, which can be treated with a widely available medication available at pet stores: For the exact same product I got the following prices:

Petsmart: $24.99 and 6% tax for 3 tablets

Our vet's office: $26 and 6% tax for 3 tablets

Ebay seller with 100% + feedback: $9.99, no tax, free 3 day delivery.

As much as I believe in supporting local businesses, their mark up is simply obscene. The Ebay seller is going to pay at least $3 for postage, plus the time they spend pulling, packing, and shipping. Meaning their actual cost for the 3 tablets was probably $5 at most....a 500% markup locally for the same item.

I would trust the product from my local vet more, and for your pet what is the price peace of mind.
