2320 Drive Shaft U Joint blew up.

Yes, the floor gets stuck on the plastic skirting or shroud right there in the center. I just used a thin, flat curved steel, and inserted it between the floor and skirt, and the floor comes right out. Putting the floor back in is much easier. It just pops right in.

I use a Lincoln Grease gun with a flexible rubber hose and thin wall tip. Once you get to the point where you can actually see the Zerk, I can rotate the U-Joint and position it to the "sweet spot" and pop the end right on the Zerk.

I prefer to remove the floor as it makes turning the drive shaft easier, and allows me to clean all of the acclimated grass out from the hidden areas. This last time I found a mouse nest filled with Decon Pellets! Those little suckers were hording the blue/green morsels.

I guess performing this procedure for the past 5 or 6 years has made removing the floor easier for me. But I'll tell you what, cutting a section out of the skirt or shroud right where that access hatch is located is sure looking like a better option the older I get!

Rob, I think your confusing the drive line from the motor, with the MFWD shaft. The shaft that broke on my tractor was the one coming directly off the motor.

Yes, you're correct.

I'm wondering if you could add a small pipe nipple to the zerk, so its sticking out farther on the U Joint ( As long as it wasn't hitting anything on the joint). It then might be possible to use a rigid grease gun extension and grease it from below.

I would be afraid it would unbalance the drive shaft. That shaft is spinning just as fast as the engine is all the time. One member said he got his dealer to turn the U-Joint around and then the Zerk was pointing toward the engine and was accessible from below. Not just the Zerk, but the entire U-Joint. I would love to see pictures of that.

Since this thread keeps going and I will have to do this sometime, how does the mower height knob come off? It looks to me like the removing the floor isn't that hard but I didn't immediately see if the knob is secured somehow or just pressed on.

Just pressed on, it is pretty tight. Put on some gloves and give a good yank! However you dont need to remove the floor to get to the little side access panel.

On mine I can't bend the skirt out of the way to get to the access panel without at least unbolting the floor and sliding it back as far as it will go. The skirt is blocked from bending out of the way by the floor. Hopefully the newer years of this tractor this isn't the case. Good luck and work safely.

I think mine being new doesnt have this problem, It seems to be clear of the floor.
