I echo the comments of Canada CT230. My Bobcat CT 235 is smooth as silk.

So would you guys say that you don't have any "surging" issues? I'm going to the dealerships tomorrow to look at tractors. One of the annoyances with my tractor is that when I'm taking off I usually have to slip the clutch quite a bit to take off smoothly, and then if the RPMs are high I'll still get a bit of a lurch up to speed. This is one of the reasons I want to get a HST -- I want to go very smoothly from full stop to traveling without any lurches or jumps.

Sounds like you could have clutch issues if you are surging with a gear tractor
It's not surging on my gear tractor, it's just that last little half inch of clutch travel when it goes into gear and takes off. It's just not the smooth engagement I want when I'm doing delicate work.
come over to the dark side... get a hydro.. you know you want to... now is the time... just do it.
truthfully you will be glad you did.
