Good link, it goes further to explain how the ice "piled up".

33 years of data is not a trend in the time line of the Earths existence or of Man's influence.

49 former NASA scientists and astronauts sent a letter to NASA Administrator Charles Bolden last week admonishing the agency for it's role in advocating a high degree of certainty that man-made CO2 is a major cause of climate change while neglecting empirical evidence that calls the theory into question.

Disregarding the news media imposed, misleading, but attention grabbing title and reading the entire letter we find that the letter does not make a statement against climate change or man having a role in accelerating it. What they were against was advocating a high certainty that man made CO2 is a major cause.

What the letter actually says is much more narrow in scope than you would be led to believe by the media with the overblown out of proportion and irresponsible headlines.

Of course for many, especially those who do not read the entire letter, the media give the impression that there is no climate change according to 49 NASA scientists and astronauts. This is just not what the letter says. The wording of the letter is clear and not prone to confusion nor does it foster misinterpretation. It is what it is.

Under climate change, winners and losers on the coral reef

As ocean temperatures rise, some species of corals are likely to succeed at the expense of others, according to a new report that details the first large-scale investigation of climate effects on corals.

Hi

By the same logic if you are 50 years old and get a tooth ache, and its worse the next day and even worse the next day and bloody painful the day after - don't worry - a trend of 4 days is not significant in 50 years of your existence :)

But if your 60 you let it go for 2 weeks because you can't afford the dentist, and it falls out.

Has anyone heard of the Northwest Passage? Seems like we may actually have one that can be used without ice breakers. I guess the ice is selective as to where it piles up.

It has been open in the summer since 2007. You can book a cruise through that route from a couple of companies.

If you want to see supercharged climate change, go to the arctic.

You don't suppose all those volcanoes under the ice could help melt it, do ya? I mean, if the ocean temperature by one of these can reach 573 degrees F, 'twice' as warm as boiling water, that might cause some ice on the surface to be affected...

The arctic melt off has provided some interesting discoveries over the last decade. One of the most significant was the discovery of the HMS Investigator, one of John Franklin's ships that was abandoned in 1845.

I went to a presentation by one of the archaeologists who was on site. They had known roughly where the ship was for some time from evidence on shore and planned a summer long expedition to find the ship using sonar. They were a little shocked when they left shore to start their first line of survey, only to cruise right over the wreck which was clearly visible from the surface. Really cool stuff.
