I would never consider new oil clean. I have spent too much time and money with hydraulic experts to question their judgement. Think about it, massive amounts of oil are being packaged into small containers. When these filters are changed or cleaned would you want the next container of oil that was packaged? We are lucky in that our oil is prefiltered in the system. Most systems filter the oil returning to the resevoir after it has done its damage.

I work on Hydraulic presses and we always prefilter the oil.
Interesting! Well its too late now for the 50hr service. I can't see myself filtering 5 gallon pails of oil though anyways...
I guess next time I will prefill the hyd. and HST filter though. Thats easy enough to do. I did let it run for 10 minutes before moving though so by then I'd hope all the air bubbles are out of the system.

how does one prefill a filter that is horizontal. I guess you could put a little in , but certainly not fill it up?

You prefill your hydraulic filter, that is on the suction side. The HST filter is on the pressure side from what I can see from my repair manual, so that will fill by itself. By not moving your tractor you allow the air to be pushed through the HST by the charge/powersteering pump. DO NOT try to move the tractor until 10 MIN have past. If you have no loader or 3 point hydraulics when you start the tractor then the gear pump did not pick up the fluid, that should happen almost immediatly. If not and you did not prefill your suction filter you may want to and hope you did not junk your gear pump out. That would happen on a tractor with alot of hours on it as a worn gear pump will not pull or suck fluid very well. CJ

You are fine, the systems on our tractors are very well thought out. The oil is actually filtered twice. Once on the way to the gear/charge pump and then on the pressure side on the way to the Hydrostat. Gear pump will tolerate some dirt a Hydrostat will not so the only place to be really concerned is the HST filter and lines/fittings PAST the filter. When I do mine this weekend or next I will prefill my hyd filter and just put a little filtered oil in the HST filter, enough just to soak the element. I have a filter on my oil transfer pump that I will use to trasfer the oil from the buckets. If someone does not have that option just look in the bottom of the bucket with a light before you dump it in to be sure nothing has settled out in the bottom. I will not dump in the last gallon until I check it. I promise you you will be surprised what you can find in there! CJ

+1 The only oil I could get my supplier to confirm that was filtered is the 12000 hour Mobile oil we use in most of our small hydrostat systems. I have actually started looking in the bottom of motor oil containers and was shocked at the crap I found. And yes some brands are worse than others. Mobile has been the best. I just looked into the bottom of a 55 gallon drum of 2000 hour oil we have used and there is actually chunks of paint and other crap visible. CJ

Dealer told me it was a must to keep the warranty in place but others say no. I'm going to spend the $300 bucks to be sure.

Your dealer is nuts if he said that. There is no reason on Gods green earth to be changing Hydra oil at 50 hours.See pg 7-15 of your owners manual it says filters only. I have worked with this stufffor years and we filter our oil often and rarely change fluid.
