Oil & Fuel BX2360 50hr transmission service

   / BX2360 50hr transmission service #11
I changed the hydro filter on my 2660 at 50 hours and didn't bother with the screen.

Last night, with 220 hours, I decided to do the full job- before the mower was installed for the season.

The fluid looked new and there were virtually no filings on the screen.

My only observation was the fluid drained was no where near the 3.1 gal capacity- more like 2.1 gal. I can blame myself for not checking over the winter.

btw- it was also a great time to install my wheel spacers from Bro-Tek.

She's ready to mow now- hills and all!!!!

At my 50 hour service - I drained the HST fluids anyway, saved it and put it in my homemade wood splitter since it was empty and old fluid had water in splitter tank. works for me. Now I can top off the splitter if needed with my leftover kubota sudt.:D

That's a great idea!

That is a great idea. Think I'll save the SUDT from my next change out for my wood splitter, assuming it comes out looking clear and clean.

Hey I wounder if it would work in my old Western snow plow hydraulic system ?

I've been a supporter of the "just change the filters", as per the manual. In fact, at my first service on my BX, when I changed the fluid, it was crystal clear and I thought to myself, "what a waste, really".

However, some folks dump their fluid and see it to be dark, murky and such. I have no explanation as to why one tractor would have clear, clean fluid at 50 hours and another's fluid be all dark and murky and contaminated looking.

No explanation at all.

I've been having a touch of "chattering" when really hard pulling my dirt implements. I decided, mostly on a whim, to go ahead and drain the HST fluid last night on my B2320. It's only 3 gallons, so it won't rob my IRA or anything.

Dog gone it. It was putrid, dark and murky. I'm glad I dumped it.

So, long story short? You just never know what you got unless you draw some off for an inspection sample of sorts.

Hey BP im nearing 50 hours and I know there are hundreds of thoughts on what to do. I was going to not change my hyd. fluid until maybe 100hrs.
I'm thinking i may take a sample when i change the filters and inspect it to see what the coloring is. How many hours are on your B now?

For the 50 hr service I changed the fluid on my BX1860, and if I had to do it all over again I wouldn't.
1*The fluid that came out looked just like the new stuff that went in. If you don't change it, you need a cork or rubber plug that will fit in where the strainer comes out, then you'll lose a pint or less.

I changed the hydro fluid and filter on my BX2360 at the end of the first year even though it only had 47 hours. In hindsight
2*it was probably not needed as the fluid that came out looked just like new.I don't think there was enough break in time to cause any residue to accumulate and be flushed out with the fluid. It didn't hurt to change it but wasn't needed.I will probably wait at least two more seasons before changing it again.
1*-2* The color of the fluid isn't a concern .
What metal metal shavings and grindings are in that fluid is .

Funny how people try to save a few dollars when it could cost you several thousand if you're not lucky.

A good flush on something that has been through a break-in period should definitely go through a fluid flush.

You can't trust your eyes and nose to know if your fluid is good or bad. Either have it tested or replace it anyways.

Funny how some people advocate throwing away valuable resources when there is no real need.

Heard of recycling?!

And unless you have it tested, you'll never know! Steel is a resource too and if it breaks then what?
